Sunil Chhetri is making a comeback from retirement, and fans will get to see him play in India's friendly match against the Maldives on Wednesday, March 19. This game will act as a warm-up for the national team ahead of their AFC Asian Cup qualifier against Bangladesh on March 25.

Chhetri is in great shape, having netted 12 goals in 24 appearances for Bengaluru FC in the Indian Super League (ISL). India’s head coach, Manolo Marquez, has confirmed that Chhetri will get some playing time against the Maldives.

Although Chhetri announced his retirement in 2024 after scoring 94 goals in 151 matches for India, he now has the opportunity to add to his tally.

India has a strong track record against the Maldives, winning 15 out of their 21 encounters. The last match between these two teams was during the SAFF Championship in 2021, where India triumphed 3-1, with Chhetri scoring two goals.
