India vs India A: Only Warm-Up Game Before England Test Series
5 days ago | 5 Views
The Indian cricket team is preparing to intensify its training for the eagerly awaited five-Test series against England by holding a closed-door warm-up match against India A at Beckenham, a venue operated by Kent County Cricket Club, as reported by Cricbuzz. This suburban location near London will act as the team's main training hub prior to the first Test scheduled at Headingley on June 20.
Although there were discussions about broadcasting this intra-squad match, the report suggests that the team management ultimately chose not to proceed with that option. The Indian team prefers to keep the match private, allowing for a concentrated and uninterrupted preparation for the series. This match, planned for around June 13, will be the sole warm-up game before the prestigious series commences.
It is important to note that no matches against local county teams have been arranged thus far. Unlike previous tours where visiting teams typically faced English domestic sides, the Indian management has opted for an internal match. The Beckenham ground, recognized for its excellent facilities, will offer the team conditions akin to those they may face during the Test series.
Players are anticipated to arrive in England during the second week of June, although some may arrive earlier based on their commitments in the IPL. In previous years, certain senior players have opted to acclimatize ahead of time, but currently, there has been no official announcement regarding individual travel arrangements, according to the report.
Additionally, the India A team will also undertake a tour of England, which includes two four-day matches against England Lions before competing against the senior Indian team in the intra-squad match. These games are scheduled to take place at Canterbury (May 30-June 2) and Northamptonshire (June 6-9), providing promising players with valuable experience ahead of the main series.
Rohit Sharma's future
As the selection for the senior team draws near in May, a significant topic of discussion continues to be Rohit Sharma's leadership. Mixed reports indicate that his role as captain may hinge on the outcome of his IPL performance; Rohit faced a challenging Test series against Australia, where his struggle to score runs resulted in his exclusion from the final match of the series in Sydney.
After the opening match at Headingley, the series will proceed to Birmingham (July 2-6), Lord’s (July 10-14), Old Trafford (July 23-27), and The Oval (July 31-August 4).
