India vs Bangladesh Live Score 1st Test, Day 1: That's it for the Day 1 in Chennai. Ashwin's sixth Test century and the 195-run stand alongside Jadeja leave India, who at one stage were reeling at 144 for six, at 339/6 at Stumps.

India vs Bangladesh Live Score 1st Test, Day 1: It was the sixth in his career, and second at home. It was also his fourth century in the format, batting at No. 7 or below for India, equalling Dhoni at the second spot and standing only behind Kapil Dev (7).

India vs Bangladesh Live Score 1st Test, Day 1: A sixth Test century for Ravichandran Ashwin, and what a knock it has been. He walked in when India were 144 for six, staring at a 200-run all out. But he combined well with Jadeja to stitch a 180-run stand and played some glorious, punchy shots through the off-side with absolute ease as India inched closer to the 350-run mark.

The hundred came off 105 balls, laced with 10 boundaries and two sixes.

India vs Bangladesh Live Score 1st Test, Day 1: Jadeja too goes closer to his triple-figure mark after taking down Mehidy for a boundary and then a six, both through midwicket. He is now on 78*.

India 321/6 in 75 overs

India vs Bangladesh Live Score 1st Test, Day 1: Short of a length ball from Rana. Ashwin waits for it, goes on his back foot and elegantly cuts it behind square for a boundary. He is into the 90s. Just eight runs shy of his sixth century in the format.

India 311/6 in 74 overs

India vs Bangladesh Live Score 1st Test, Day 1: The unbeaten 153-run stand between Ashwin and Jadeja is now the highest partnership for the seventh wicket or below for India against Bangladesh in Test cricket. It goes past the previous best of 133 between Sachin Tendulkar and Zaheer Khan for the 10th wicket in Dhaka in 2004. This is also the duo's best partnership stand and their first stand past the 150-run mark.

Overall, this is the 17th 150-run stand for the seventh wicket in a Test match for India and 11th at home.

India 303/6 in 73 overs

India vs Bangladesh Live Score 1st Test, Day 1: Indian cricketers to score 20 or more fifty-plus knocks and take 250+ wickets:

India 285/6 in 70 overs vs Bangladesh

India vs Bangladesh Live Score 1st Test, Day 1: The partnership of 125* off 143 is now the highest seventh-wicket stand for India against Bangladesh in a Test match. The previous best was between former India captain Sourav Ganguly and Sunil Joshi (121 in Dhaka) in 2000.

India vs Bangladesh Live Score 1st Test, Day 1: It was a forgettable morning session for India with head coach Gautam Gambhir donning a gloomy look in the dug out, neither was Rohit happy with the team losing wickets at regular interval. But with Ashwin and Jadeja reviving the innings with their century stand, that left India in a more comfortable position than it was before, Gambhir and Rohit is all smiles in the dressing room, and so is chief selector Ajit Agarkar and BCCI president Roger Binny.

India vs Bangladesh Live Score 1st Test, Day 1: This is Jadeja and Ashwin's second century stand, also for the seventh wicket; the previous was 130 against Sri Lanka in Mohali last March. Overall, Ashwin has been involved in four seven-wicket stands, which is only behind former India captain MS Dhoni (7).

India 258/6 in 64 overs vs Bangladesh

India vs Bangladesh Live Score 1st Test, Day 1: A delicate upper cut from Ashwin against Nahid Rana over the slip cordon, which even left Jadeja impressed, brought up the century stand for the pair. India also touched the 250-run mark.

India vs Bangladesh Live Score 1st Test, Day 1: An elderly spectator in Chepauk got up from her seat and applauded when Ashwin hit a six off Shakib and later when the all-rounder got his fifty, cameras once again turned to this lady and she was seen cheering from the stands.

India vs Bangladesh Live Score 1st Test, Day 1: A 15th half-century for Ashwin in Test cricket, which came off 57 deliveries, laced with six boundaries and a six. He becomes the first cricketer in Test history to have the double of 20 fifty-plus scores and 500 wickets.

India vs Bangladesh Live Score 1st Test, Day 1: Shakib is once again shown no mercy as Jadeja welcomed him for his second over with back-to-back boundaries - one slog-swept over deep midwicket, and the other drilled straight down the ground - as the partnership with Ashwin touched the 75-run mark.

India 219/6 in 55 overs vs Bangladesh

India vs Bangladesh Live Score 1st Test, Day 1: Shakib sends in a loosener first ball down the leg side, Jadeja helps it along the way past short fine leg for four. He takes a single next ball. Then Ashwin slog sweeps the third ball without really getting too far low over midwicket for a six. That was a shot and a half! Ashwin on 40 off 39 at the end of that over, Jadeja 20 off 27. This partnership has now brought 64 runs in as many balls for the seventh wicket and it has gone past the one between Pant and Jaiswal to become India's highest of this innings.

India vs Bangladesh Live Score 1st Test, Day 1: Ashwin has rode his luck a bit. There was a big edge that flew threw the gaps between slips and gully a couple of overs back, now another big edge flies over the slips fourth ball of the 52nd from Mahmud. Then Ashwin nails the cut next ball for yet another four. He has raced to 34 off 35, Jadeja on 15 off 25. Shakib Al Hasan to bowl his first over now in the 52nd over of the day and Jadeja will be on strike.

India 197/6 in 52 overs

India vs Bangladesh Live Score 1st Test, Day 1: Well he has hit many a six at this ground wearing the yellow of CSK, now he does so wearing whites. Hasan Mahmud bowls the second over of the session, the third ball is short and Jadeja pulls it with absolutely no intention to keep it down. It goes into the stands for the first six of the match. He is then given out LBW next ball, Mahmud collides with him while appealing and celebrating and both players hit the floor. Jadeja gets up and reviews confidently. Replays show there was a big inside edge. Jadeja is on 13 off 23, Ashwin on 23 off 25.

India 184/6 in 50 overs

India vs Bangladesh Live Score 1st Test, Day 1: All right it could be a longish final session. The second session had ended with a big appeal for LBW against Ashwin, with the umpires calling for Tea after a lengthy discussion between the Bangladesh players as to whether they should take a review or not. Ashwin is now on strike facing Taskin Ahmed.

India 176/6 in 48 overs

India vs Bangladesh Live Score 1st Test, Day 1: He stayed put while Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli all fell in quick succession in the first hour of the day. He stayed there after Pant fell in the second session and got rewarded with a half-century.

India vs Bangladesh Live Score 1st Test, Day 1: 48 overs bowled in the first two sessions. Well Bangladesh may be feeling all kinds of good at the moment where they have India but they are in for some trouble as far as the over rate is concerned. India scored 88 runs for the loss of three wickets in that session, as they did in the first session today.

India vs Bangladesh Live Score 1st Test, Day 1: Both Ashwin and Jadeja have put up a bit of a counter-attack. Bangladesh would remember how Ashwin just took the game away from them with the bat at their home in the last Test match between the two sides. Jadeja pumps the fifth ball of Miraz's over down the track for a four. Then Ashwin pulls the first ball of the next over by Nahid Rana for a four. The fifth ball goes down the leg for four more byes and then Ashwin slaps the last ball through point for a four. Ashwin has raced to 11 off seven, Jadeja on four off five.

India 163/6 in 44 overs

India vs Bangladesh Live Score 1st Test, Day 1: All of a sudden, India's spin greats Jadeja and Ashwin are in the crease together as KL Rahul falls to a brilliant catch at short leg. Miraz gets his first wicket of the match. Looped up and drifted in and landing on a fullish length Rahul tries to glance it from his knees, Zakir goes low on his right and takes the catch with both hands.

Rahul c Zakir Hasan b Mehidy Hasan Miraz 16 (52)

India 144/6 in 42.2 overs

India vs Bangladesh Live Score 1st Test, Day 1: He had edged the third ball and it fell just short of slip. Rana bounces it again at 148kph and this time, Jaiswal edges it straight into the hands of first slip.

Jaiswal c Shadman Islam b Nahid Rana 56 (118)

India 144/5 in 41.4 overs

India vs Bangladesh Live Score 1st Test, Day 1: Miraz is into his seventh over now and this is the first time we are seeing a sustained period of spin bowling. Pant will be really kicking himself seeing how this pitch is playing out now. It isn't exactly easy to bat on but there are none of the demons that were there in the first hour. For now, Rahul is standing steady with Jaiswal. He has scored 13 in 46 balls, Jaiswal on 52 off 106.

India 137/4 in 39 overs

India vs Bangladesh Live Score 1st Test, Day 1: Well, no one has even close to the mountain of runs he that Jaiswal has scored recently in Test cricket so is it time to say this?

India vs Bangladesh Live Score 1st Test, Day 1: There are some in the crowd who are bowing down to him. This has been an incredible innings to say the least. He takes a bit of a stumble as he sets off for a single to get there. Half century in 95 balls.

India 130/4 in 34.2 overs

India vs Bangladesh Live Score 1st Test, Day 1: He is not all about smash, bang and wallop. Jaiswal has dug in today and ground 49 runs in 94 balls thus far. Sky is the limit for this guy quite clearly, whether it be smashing it away in a T20 or squeeze out runs in difficult Test match conditions, Jaiswal can do it all.

India 126/4 in 34 overs

India vs Bangladesh Live Score 1st Test, Day 1: Litton Das must bee an unhappy man. Bangladesh have bowled 21 extras, 12 of which have come in this session. Nahid Rana starts off the 31st over with a no ball after the 30th over from Mahmud where eight runs came from byes and leg byes despite it technically being a maiden. Rana goes too full on Rahul's toes after that and the latter on drives it past mid-on for a four. He He ends it with a bouncer that goes over Rahul and Litton both for four byes. Rahul on five off 22, Jaiswal on 43 off 82.

India are 120/4 in 31 overs

India vs Bangladesh Live Score 1st Test, Day 1: Quite a fascinating battle here between these two very talented young players. Jaiswal has been walking forward to Mahmud for much of this session. Mahmud responds by starting the 30th over with a bouncer. Then he pitches it at a very good length and beats Jaiswal's edge. Beats him again next ball with another beauty. Then he goes full but too far leg side so as to avoid Jaiswal walking forward, Litton can't get to it and it goes for four byes. The fifth ball then goes off Jaiswal's pads for four leg byes. Jaiswal is on 43 off 82, Rahul has scored one run in 15 balls.

India 111/4 in 30 overs

India vs Bangladesh Live Score 1st Test, Day 1: Mahmud returns for the 28th over, Jaiswal comes forward for his first ball and square drives it to the boundary. A gorgeous shot that takes India's total to 101.

India vs Bangladesh Live Score 1st Test, Day 1: Oh such a soft dismissal to end such a good innings. Short and wide from Mahmud for the third ball of the 26th, Pant has almost a lazy waft at it. Edge and the wicketkeeper. Pant knows just how poor that was, he smashes his bat on his pads in frustration.

Pant c Litton Das b Hasan Mahmud 39 (52)

India 96/4 in 25.3 overs

India vs Bangladesh Live Score 1st Test, Day 1: Hasan Mahmud to start the second session for Bangladesh. Jaiswal facing up on 37, Pant at the other end on 33. Over the wicket and three slips.

India 88/3 in 23 overs

India vs Bangladesh Live Score 1st Test, Day 1: It seems to be pretty clear that the day started off with seamers getting a lot of assistance. Jaiswal stuck around through that saw himself through to the latter phase of the session where the conditions seem to have eased off. Bangladesh would hope they get a couple of quick wickets, since India still have Jadeja, Rahul and Ashwin left to come, all of whom can really do some damage.

India vs Bangladesh Live Score 1st Test, Day 1: Virat Kohli, returning to the Indian Test side for the first time since January this year, began his innings with a few authoritative shots, seemingly intent on taking the attack to the opposition. He played some elegant strokes on the leg side, including his signature flick, signalling his intent to impose himself on the bowlers.

However, Kohli’s well-documented struggles against deliveries outside off-stump came back to haunt him. Mahmud, staying disciplined with his line, tempted Kohli into a cover drive, and the Indian great edged the ball to Litton Das, leaving India in deeper trouble.

India vs Bangladesh Live Score 1st Test, Day 1: It was not a pretty sight for the hosts in the first hour of play today and the reason for that was Hasan Mahmud. Under overcast skies, Mahmud made life difficult for the Indian batters by exploiting the movement on offer.

India vs Bangladesh Live Score 1st Test, Day 1: Bangladesh had some trouble with over rates in the first Test against Pakistan a month back. They have completed just 23 overs here in the first session which is never good news. For India, the good news is that Rishabh Pant has picked up from where he left off. He has saved India from many a hairy situation in the past and he does it again in his first Test innings since December 2022 with a very impressive Yashasvi Jaiswal at the other end.

At Lunch, Pant is on 33 off 44 balls while Jaiswal has scored 37 in 62. The partnership between them stands at 54 off 83.

India vs Bangladesh Live Score 1st Test, Day 1: Taskin walks back with a disgusted look on his face as Pant edges the third ball of the 22nd. Shadman Islam goes for it, he is standing deeper than the other slips and it doesn't quite carry to him. Well, it is less of the ball not carrying and more of some clumsy slip placement and catching from Bangladesh. The momentum has clearly shifted in the second half of this session and this boundary brings up the 50-run stand between Pant and Jaiswal. HE is on 32 off 39 at the end of that over, Jaiswal is on 36 off 61.

India 86/3 in 22 overs

India vs Bangladesh Live Score 1st Test, Day 1: Pant slaps the first ball of the 21st from Miraz through cover for a four. He is being taken for runs by these two batters. A single off the fourth ball after that. Pant is on 27 off 35, Jaiswal on 36 off 59.

India vs Bangladesh Live Score 1st Test, Day 1: And Jaiswal welcomes him with two fours. Fullish from Mehidy Hasan Miraz second ball of the 19th, it is fullish and Jaiswal slaps that through cover. He defends the next ball which is a similar one. Then he sweeps the third ball to the boundary. Jaiswal ends the over on 36 off 52, Pant on 21 off 30.

India 75/3 in 19 overs

India vs Bangladesh Live Score 1st Test, Day 1: Pant rides Rana's pace fourth ball, which is short, and pulls it through backward square leg for a four. He takes a single next ball and is on 19 off 24 at the end of the over. Jaiswal on 28 off 46.

India 65/3 in 17 overs

India vs Bangladesh Live Score 1st Test, Day 1: Taskin Ahmed replaces him for the 16th over and that brings an end to a seven-over spell. Nahid Rana pitched up the third ball of the 15th and Pant drives it through covers for a four. Three runs off the next two balls, Pant is on 13 off 15, Jaiswal on 26 off 43.

India 57/3 in 15 overs

India vs Bangladesh Live Score 1st Test, Day 1: Mahmud bowled his seventh over on the trot. Jaiswal clips away the third ball through midwicket for a four and that brings up India's 50. He ends the over on 24 off 41, Pant is on eight off 11.

India 50/3 in 14 overs

India vs Bangladesh Live Score 1st Test, Day 1: Well they are ready to get down and dirty to get runs. Pant flicks the third ball of the 12th from Mahmud towards the cow corner boundary. Rana a bit clumsy with chasing and collecting the ball and the Indians are alert to that, they steal a third run. However, they had to really hurry, the throw came to the bowler's end with Jaiswal in bigger trouble running the other way. He got time to make it though and all's well that ends well. Jaiswal on 19 off 33, Pant on three off seven.

India 40/3 in 12 overs

India vs Bangladesh Live Score 1st Test, Day 1: Well considering how this morning has gone it might be clearer that India's combination of three pacers and two spinners is not too far off the mark. Have your say though.

India vs Bangladesh Live Score 1st Test, Day 1: Pretty safe to say that this is a dream start for Bangladesh. Hasan Mahmud has been front and centre, he has figures of 3/6 in five overs. It looks like he is in for an extended spell, taking the ball after the break and getting readyy to bowl the 12th. Jaiswal is on strike, he has scored 18 in 28, Pant yet to get off the mark after six balls.

India 36/3 in 11 overs

India vs Bangladesh Live Score 1st Test, Day 1: Taskin Ahmed taken off and the tearaway Nahid Rana is set to bowl his first over in the 11th over. Rana had turned a lot of heads, and left some ringing, with his breakneck speed during Bangladesh's series win in Pakistan. Interesting to see what he does here with India already on the backfoot. Meanwhile, Pant yet to get off the mark after facing four balls. Jaiswal has hardly had strike for the past few overs, he is on 17 off 23.

India 34/3 in 10 overs

India vs Bangladesh Live Score 1st Test, Day 1: Wicket No.3 for Hasan Mahmud and it is the showstopper. Virat Kohli pokes outside off, edge and the wicketkeeper. A dismissal that has happened countless times in Kohli's career. India have lost their top three inside the first 10 overs. Rishabh Pant has walked out for the first time in over a year and a half into a very familiar situation with India in trouble.

Kohli c Litton Das b Hasan Mahmud 6 (6)

India 34/3 in 9.2 overs

India vs Bangladesh Live Score 1st Test, Day 1: The former India captain has raced to six runs off four balls. Takes two off the first ball of the ninth from Taskin and flicks past mid-on for three off the next ball. Meanwhile, Sanjay Manjrekar isn't too happy about Kuldeep not playing in this Test.

India 34/2 in 9 overs

India vs Bangladesh Live Score 1st Test, Day 1: Gill walks and Bangladesh are a cock-a-hoop. That is a big wicket, what a start for Hasan Mahmud to this Test match. It wasn't exactly the kind of delivery that you would expect Gill to fall to though. Full and down the leg side, Gill tries to push it away for some easy runs but he has ended getting an edge to the wicketkeeper. Big cheers from the crowd building up at Chepauk though, as this means that Virat Kohli is walking out.

Gill c Litton Das b Hasan Mahmud 0 (8)

India 28/2 in 7.3 overs

India vs Bangladesh Live Score 1st Test, Day 1: Fullish ball fourth delivery of the seventh from Taskin and Jaiswal gorgeously drives it through covers for four. Jaiswal lets the next ball go and then Jaiswal punches the last ball down the ground for anothef four. He is on 17 off 18.

India 24/1 in 7 overs

India vs Bangladesh Live Score 1st Test, Day 1: Hasan Mahmud gets the breakthrough for Bangladesh and it is the Indian captain. Mahmud has been going in and out all morning, didn't make Rohit play for much of that first over and now makes him go for the angle, a good length delivery. It seams away and the ball takes the edge, Rohit's counterpart Shanto takes the catch.

Rohit Sharma c Najmul Hossain Shanto b Hasan Mahmud 6 (19)

India 14/1 in 5.1 overs

India vs Bangladesh Live Score 1st Test, Day 1: Ah now Rohit rubs some of that aforementioned morning spice on Mahmud and Bangladesh's wounds. Rohit drives, it takes a thickish edge and goes through point to the boundary. Rohit is on 5 off 17, Jaiswal on 2 off seven.

India 8/0 in 4 overs

India vs Bangladesh Live Score 1st Test, Day 1: Big appeal for LBW off the second ball of the fourth from Hasan Mahmud. Umpire Rod Tucker shakes his head and Shanto takes the first review of the series. Fullish delivery, seams back and beats the inside edge, hitting Rohit on the thigh pad. Ball tracking shows umpire's call on impact and so very close but no cigar for Bangladesh. They should be encouraged by this though, it is a very spicy morning indeed in Chennai.

India vs Bangladesh Live Score 1st Test, Day 1: Taskin starts the second over with an absolute corker on a good length middle and leg to Jaiswal. The batter is squared and beaten for all money. A leg bye next ball. Taskin bowls a yorker to end the over, Rohit digs it out and takes a single for himself.

India 3/0 after 3 overs

India vs Bangladesh Live Score 1st Test, Day 1: The Indian captain will feel good about that, although he is yet to get off the mark after facing seven balls. Dinesh Karthik says in the commentary box that making the transition from white-ball mode to red-ball cricket as a batter is far more difficult than the other way around and Rohit has been playing some high octane white-ball cricket for six months now. Hasan Mahmud had bowled the second over, Jaiswal had taken a single off the first ball in it and so he is on two off seven.

India 2/0 in 2 overs

India vs Bangladesh Live Score 1st Test, Day 1: Jaiswal gets a single against his name by tucking the fourth ball of the over away from his hip for a single. He was beaten by the previous ball and Rohit was then beaten when he took a rather loose waft at the last ball.

India 1/0 after 1 over

India vs Bangladesh Live Score 1st Test, Day 1: All right, enough talk, time to play some hard-nosed Test cricket! Yashasvi Jaiswal facing up, Rishabh Pant had a little chat with him before he walked out with his kit on, a few pats on the back from the wicketkeeper for the junior opener. Jaiswal has his captain Rohit Sharma at the other end. Taskin Ahmed starts the Bangladesh attack.

India vs Bangladesh Live Score 1st Test, Day 1: The two captains have led the two sides and they are standing adjacent to each other with the match officials. First comes Bangladesh's "Amar Sonar Bangla" and then India's "Jana Gana Mana". Both written by the great Rabindranath Tagore.

India vs Bangladesh Live Score 1st Test, Day 1: This ground has become synonymous with the Chennai Super Kings in the last decade or so but the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chepauk has a long and proud history of red-ball cricket, being the spiritual home of the sport in this region since the start of the Presidency matches in 1916. The first Test played here was in 1933-34 between Douglas Jardine's England and CK Nayudu's India. This is the 35th Test match to be played at the stadium.

India vs Bangladesh Live Score 1st Test, Day 1: Both sides have the same bowling combination for this match.

Bangladesh XI: Shadman Islam, Zakir Hasan, Najmul Hossain Shanto(c), Mominul Haque, Mushfiqur Rahim, Shakib Al Hasan, Litton Das(w), Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Taskin Ahmed, Hasan Mahmud, Nahid Rana

India vs Bangladesh Live Score 1st Test, Day 1: There you go, Rohit Sharma has confirmed that India have chosen a three-pronged pace attack of Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj and Akash Deep.

India XI: Rohit Sharma(c), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant(w), Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin, Jasprit Bumrah, Akash Deep, Mohammed Siraj

India vs Bangladesh Live Score 1st Test, Day 1: Ravi Shastri makes the stadium shake with his voice, Rohit Sharma and Najmul Hossain Shanto are out there in their Test blazers. Bangladesh have won the toss and chosen to field first. Rohit says he would have done the same.

India vs Bangladesh Live Score 1st Test, Day 1: Like India, it will be interesting to see if Bangladesh go for an extra seamer or three spinners. Conditions in the two Rawalpindi Tests in Pakistan was favouring pace bowlers and so Bangladesh had chosen three seamers there. However, the Chepauk pitch is expected to suit spin bowling more than what was the case in Rawalpindi.

India vs Bangladesh Live Score 1st Test, Day 1: KL Rahul is set to be back in the eleven as a pure batter and Gautam Gambhir indicated yesterday that Sarfaraz Khan had a brilliant start to his Test career in the series against England but it is no surprise is higher up in the pecking order considering his experience and the fact that he was in pretty sublime form before he got sidelined due to injury.

India vs Bangladesh Live Score 1st Test, Day 1: Since they started playing Test cricket in 2000, Bangladesh have won eight matches away from home. That is an impressive record, 24 years remains a short period for any side to transform themselves into a strong Test nation. Moreover, four of these wins have come since 2021.

India vs Bangladesh Live Score 1st Test, Day 1: The second Test of this series is set to be played in Kanpur from October 1. This will be followed by a three-match Test series against New Zealand, who are currently playing out a series in Sri Lanka. The first match will be from October 16 in Bengaluru after which the second starts on October 24 in Pune. The third Test will be hosted at the Wankhede Stadium from November 1.

That ends the home Test season for India but it will be followed by arguably the biggest cricket event left in this calendar year - the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The series has expanded to five Tests and the first will be held in Perth from November 22. The second Test is the annual Adelaide pink-ball Test, a rather infamous event for India considering how it went in the last tour, and this starts from December 6. India then return to the venue of their greatest heist in the last tour Down Under, the Gabba in Brisbane for the third Test from December 14 and that will be followed by the Boxing Day Test at the MCG from December 26. The final match of the epic tour will be the New Year's Test in Sydney from January 3.

India vs Bangladesh Live Score 1st Test, Day 1: Kuldeep Yadav has worked on his batting to make sure that his frailty in that department doesn't go against him in close selection calls. He had scored 28 and 30 in the last two times that he batted in Test cricket. Both those innings came as part of big lower-order stands that propelled India to a commanding position in those Tests.

India vs Bangladesh Live Score 1st Test, Day 1: Considering the fact that the seamers are set to have a big say on the basis of what the pitch looks like, the big question is whether India will go with an additional spinner with Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja. If they do, it is quite likely that Kuldeep Yadav would get the nod ahead of Axar Patel.

The track at the MA Chidambaram Stadium has been laid out with the red soil, which is usually seen at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Red-soil pitches generally have bounce and carry and thus keep the seamers in the picture. However, the hot and humid conditions in Chennai could possibly offer grip for the spinners as the Test progresses. But it would be the quicks who are expected to make an impact in the match because of the nature of the track and conditions. There would be a few sessions in the Test that would be dominated by reverse swing too.

India vs Bangladesh Live Score 1st Test, Day 1: One can expect it to be nice and sunny in Chennai. In fact, forget about rain, the scorching heat might be some cause of concern for player over the course of this Test. Parts of Tamil Nadu were sizzling at over 40 degrees celsius on Tuesday. Chennai has recorded temperatures close to 40 degrees celsius in the afternoon quite frequently in the last few days.

India vs Bangladesh Live Score 1st Test, Day 1: Yazball was said to have chased away Bazball earlier this year when England toured India for five Test matches. Now Yashasvi Jaiswal really is chasing a record that belongs to Brendon McCullum. Jaiswal is only seven sixes behind McCullum's record of most sixes (33) hit in a calendar year in Tests.

India vs Bangladesh Live Score 1st Test, Day 1: Rishabh Pant made his first runs in Test cricket by hitting a six. He blasted the second ball he faced in his career from Adil Rashid at Trent Bridge for a big one in August 2018. He has played 33 Test matches in his career in which he has scored 2271 runs at an average of 43.67. Pant has scored five centuries and 11 half-centuries. Nine of those 11 half-centuries have in fact been 90s.

India vs Bangladesh Live Score 1st Test, Day 1: India have always been a difficult side to beat at home but they have taken this dominance to unprecedented levels since 2013. This has meant that their overall record in the 21st century is quite extraordinary. India came into it with 63 wins and 112 defeats from 336 matches played. It put the country’s win-loss record in Tests at 0.562. It now stands at exactly 1.

India vs Bangladesh Live Score 1st Test, Day 1: If India win this match, their win-loss ratio will be more than 1 for the first time in their Test history. Having played their first Test match in 1932 at Lord's against England, never before have India won more matches than they have lost in the longest format. Of the 579 Tests they have played, India have won and lost 178 matches and drawn 222. There has also been one extraordinary tied Test in Chennai in September 1986.

India will be the fifth team to have more wins than losses in their Test history after Australia, England, Pakistan and South Africa.

India vs Bangladesh Live Score 1st Test, Day 1: Bangladesh have a few Test veterans in their side and none have been more damaging for India than Mushfiqur Rahim. The wicketkeeper-batter is known for his meticulous preparation before a series and was seen practising a variety of sweeps at the Chepauk Stadium. Mushfiqur is one of few touring batters in the world who have a good Test record in India. He may have played only three Tests in the country but the Bangladesh wicketkeeper-batter has scored 331 runs at an average of 55.16 with one century and two half-centuries.

India vs Bangladesh Live Score 1st Test, Day 1: The biggest talking point of this series is Rishabh Pant's return. His career, one of the most incredible things Test cricket had ever seen in the last five years, went into a temporary deep freeze after he suffered a car crash at the turn of the year betwen 2022 and 2023. He had played his last international match just before that, which was also a Test against Bangladesh incidentally, where he scored 93 off 104 in the first innings. It was the sixth time that he had been dismissed in the 90s in Test cricket and he has five centuries to his name as well in just 33 matches. No wonder he is back in the squad as soon as he was available.

India vs Bangladesh Live Score 1st Test, Day 1: That was the assessment of his new head coach, Gautam Gambhir, yesterday. This will be the first time that Gambhir will work with India's pace genius.

“Bumrah is the best fast bowler in the world in all the three formats. And it's not just his performance, it's just his hunger as well. The best part is that he wants to play as much Test cricket as he can,” Gambhir told reporters yesterday.

"I think what he has done in T20 format in West Indies to what he can do in red-ball cricket, what he did against England. So I feel that yes, it is actually not even a luxury. I think it's really an honour that we've got someone like Bumrah playing for us and sitting in that dressing room. We can make a change, we can make a difference at any stage of the game. So yes, hopefully, we can do the same in this series and going forward as well."

India vs Bangladesh Live Score 1st Test, Day 1: "Kindness". "Chivalry". "Respect".

What did Kohli mean when he tweeted out those three words on X? Is it going to be his mantra in the upcoming Test matches? Is this what he is demanding from fans whenever they turn up in the stands for this series? Will it be his philosophy whenever he has a chat with opposition players? Has three words of the English language ever been analysed as much as this? Questions, questions everywhere and, let's face it, Kohli is under no obligation to clear up the three-word mystery.

India vs Bangladesh Live Score 1st Test, Day 1: They may be minnows in Test cricket but Bangladesh bring to India the kind of threats that the hosts are not used to facing when other top sides come visiting. Unlike England, Australia, South Africa and New Zealand, Bangladesh have more than one genuine world class spinner in their lineup and the average batter from the country is more adept at handling this type of bowling than one from any of the aforementioned nations. Add to all this the fact that Bangladesh just looked much kore steady in all departments of the game than they ever have in that series in Pakistan and it becomes pretty clear that we have an interesting series in our hands. It will still be the mother of all upsets, to put it lightly, if Bangladesh manage to win even one of the two Tests, let alone the series, but it is not something that is entirely improbable, which was the case the last two times they toured India.

India vs Bangladesh Live Score 1st Test, Day 1: Bumrah was not expected to be a part of the Indian team for this series even until a day before the squad for the first Test was announced. While there were some raised eyebrows over some senior Indian players not appearing in the Duleep Trophy, there was absolutely no one having any issue with Bumrah being given as much rest as he needed, considering the humungous value he brings when India travel to Australia for a five-Test series and then try to win the Champions Trophy next year.

However, there he is, preparing to throw them down at the Bangladesh batters. This could mean either of two things. One is that India are wary of the threat Bangladesh carry, especially considering what they did to Pakistan in Pakistan just before this series. If somehow Bangladesh pull off a similar heist in India, anyone who has followed cricket in this nation would know that all the euphoria of winning the T20 World Cup would be replaced by obituaries to India's life in Test cricket. And so, the selectors decided that no stone could be left unturned in trying to win at least the first Test. The other possibility is that Bumrah had enough of sitting at home and couldn't bear missing out on his beloved Test cricket when being fully fit.
