India vs Bangladesh 2nd Test Day 5 Highlights: IND win by 7 wickets, record 2-0 series victory
1 month ago | 5 Views
India vs Bangladesh Live Score, 2nd Test Day 5: Wow, this ground was sleeping for much of the first three days of this match. Then it saw some of the most high octane action one would ever get to see in Test cricket and that is solely driven by India's ruthless desire for a win and their absolute confidence in their abilities at home. They are already considered invincible at home but this win reinforces that tag and how. One can only dream of batting the way they did in video games and even thinking of doing something like that would've been considered mind-numbing stupidity not too long ago. They seem to have cracked the Test cricket code. It is not about the batters, but about how many overs you get to bowl at the opposition in both innings. New Zealand are up next for them before that blockbuster five-match tour of Australia. But before that, Suryakumar Yadav takes charge as India play Bangladesh in a three-match T20I series. Join us for that and stick around for more stuff from this match and series. Goodbye!
India vs Bangladesh Live Score, 2nd Test Day 5: Winning captain Rohit Sharma said that the main intention behind India's explosive first innings was just the fact that they wanted to make sure they get as many overs to bowl at Bangladesh as possible. Attacking cricket at its finest. Here is what he said in his interview in the presentation ceremony:
“In life, we all keep moving on and at some stage, you work with different personnel. When Rahul bhai said he was done, it was a fantastic time we had together. Then life moves on and as a team we had to move on. With Gautam Gambhir...I've played with him and what sort of mindset he has. Early days still but very fruitful. To be honest we had to think a lot to keep the game moving forward. When we came on day four, we wanted to get them out as early as possible and see what we can do with the bat. It was not about the runs we get but the overs we wanted to bowl at them. The pitch didn't have much for bowlers but to get a game out of that pitch was a great effort from the bowlers. The batters were willing to take the risk and we were ready to give ourselves a chance at a result. Look, Akash has been good and he's played a lot domestic cricket. There's enough overs in the legs and the guy can do the job the team is expecting him to do. He can bowl long spells and we want to create a bunch of bowlers who are ready to play Test cricket at any given point. If someone is injured, you should be able to replace them.”
India vs Bangladesh Live Score, 2nd Test Day 5: A total of 114 runs in this series and 11 wickets. A century (113) that turned the first Test on its head followed by figures of 6/88 in the second Bangladesh innings. Then figures of 2/45 and 3/50 in the second Test.
"Honestly, I'm glad to turn up performances for the team. A massive win for us in the context of where the WTC points table stands. I mean, I think with regards to this game, when he bowled them out after lunch, Rohit gave that talk we wanted to go for it. He stepped out and hit the first ball for six and he set that tone. How Jassi bowled, how Siraj and Akash bowled, you don't have to say much about Jaddu. Proud to be part of this attack. We expect a team with such experience to make those adjustments. I don't use the carrom ball as much as I do in white-ball cricket and it's about building a spell and getting into the rhythm," he says
India vs Bangladesh Live Score, 2nd Test Day 5: Jaiswal says that he had come with a fresh slate in his mind, that bumper England series completely forgotten. He says he was just doing what was important for the team. "Rohit bhai and Gauti sir told me to play the way I want to," he said about his approach in the first innings.
India vs Bangladesh Live Score, 2nd Test Day 5: 72 off 51 in the first innings, 51 off 45 in the second. Yashasvi Jaiswal had a job to do in the first innings and he did that with aplomb. In the second, he just continued where he left off. As stated earlier, we are probably seeing the early days of an potential all-time great.
India vs Bangladesh Live Score, 2nd Test Day 5: Jasprit Bumrah talks to the broadcasters. Murali Karthik calls him a magician and he, in typical Bumrah style, ducks that complement well enough. “I don't think about adjectives,” he says.
“It's just good to get the win after we lost two days. Really special win today. So, in this you use your experience. Yes, it's easier said and done. This was different to what it was in Chennai. We try to communicate and solve the problem in front of you. As I said, we've played a lot of cricket in India and understand the nature of the wicket. You find options and discuss with senior players. I'm also in a role now where I help other bowlers. He comes up to me quite a lot and asks me 'what you think I should do?' He's got a lot of heart and whenever he bowls, he gives his best. Yeah, after the World Cup, we got a break and were prepping for the Test series and you understand the number of overs you bowl. We have a long Test series [in Australia] and that's why he had that break.”
India vs Bangladesh Live Score, 2nd Test Day 5: Rishabh Pant hits the second ball of the 18th down the ground for a four and that is that. India stay on top of the WTC table and are almost through to the final. A straightforward run to victory in the end for India but that has come thanks to some utterly miraculous batting in their first innings. Make no mistake, this has to go down in history as one of India's greatest ever wins. They were against Bangladesh and time and they have ended beating both, winning this match more than a session and a half to spare despite two and a half days of this match being washed off.
India vs Bangladesh Live Score, 2nd Test Day 5: Just a run off the 17th over and then Kohli takes a single off the first ball of the 18th. That brings India's score to 94, the scores are tied. Pant on strike now.
India vs Bangladesh Live Score, 2nd Test Day 5: Well sports don't always have Bollywood-style finishes. India need three runs to win, Jaiswal goes for the big slog sweep but miscues it. The ball goes high, hiiiigh in the air and Shakib Al Hasan makes no mistake with the catch. Anti-climactic end to yet another Test match for Yashasvi Jaiswal in which he has been absolutely brilliant. Kohli can't help but laugh at that.
Jaiswal c Shakib Al Hasan b Taijul Islam 51 (45)
India 92/3, need 3 to win
India vs Bangladesh Live Score, 2nd Test Day 5: His second fifty of the game and he has got there with a calm single down the ground off the first ball of the 16th. India now need just six runs to win. Yashasvi Jaiswal is having the time of his life. We are seeing the start of the career of a player who is surely on his way to becoming an all-time great.
India 89/2
India vs Bangladesh Live Score, 2nd Test Day 5: And Jaiswal himself needs two to get to his half-century. Both him and Kohli went for their shots in this over from Taijul. Kohli drilled the first ball back to the bowler, Taijul got a hand to it but there is no way he is stopping that, it runs to the boundary behind him. Then Kohli launches the fourth over mid-on for a four. Tries a big heave next ball but it takes an inside edge and goes to deep square leg. Kohli takes a single and then Jaiswal smashes the last ball over long on for a six. He gets to 48 in 41, Kohli on 24 off 26.
India 86/2, need 9 runs to win
India vs Bangladesh Live Score, 2nd Test Day 5: He is a run-machine in Test cricket. India are 25 runs away from victory and Jaiswal is on 42 off 37. Kohli at the other end on 15 off 21. Just a run off the 13th over. India are 24 runs away from victory now.
India 71/2 in 13 over
India vs Bangladesh Live Score, 2nd Test Day 5: The fifth ball of the 11th from Miraz shoots off the ground and stays low to hit Kohli on the pads. Looks plumb and the umpire raises his finger. Kohli, though, reviews it straightaway after taking a brief downward looking. There is no bat but the impact was outside off!
Kohli on 14 off 18, Jaiswal on 38 off 31.
India 66/2 in 11 overs
India vs Bangladesh Live Score, 2nd Test Day 5: Kohli on strike on 12 off 12, Jaiswal on 33 off 25. Taijul Islam to bowl the 10th over. India can finish this off if Kohli hits six sixes in the over Yuvraj Singh style. Unlikely that would happen though. Jaiswal is one run away from reaching 1200 Test runs. He is averaging over 66 in his first 11 Tests and striking at close to 70. Bonkers.
India 59/2 in 9 overs
India vs Bangladesh Live Score, 2nd Test Day 5: Kohli is not the biggest sweeper of the ball but he nails this one. Last ball of the seventh from Miraz is on middle and leg, Kohli gets down and dirty and finds the gap. That brings up India's fifty. They need just 45 to win now.
India 50/2 in 7 overs
India vs Bangladesh Live Score, 2nd Test Day 5: Shakib errs towards the leg side last ball of the sixth and Kohli punishes him. Flicks it for the most risk-free he must've hit this year. Kohli on six off five, Jaiswal on 21 off 14.
India 41/2, need 54 to win
India vs Bangladesh Live Score, 2nd Test Day 5: Gill done by the sharp turn into him, Miraz and Bangladesh appeal for LBW and the umpire obliges. Gill has a long chat with Jaiswal before taking the review. It turned in sharply from short of a length outside off and struck him in front of off. No bat and three reds. Gill walks off to the cheers that he must be used to by now as the next man is Virat Kohli.
India vs Bangladesh Live Score, 2nd Test Day 5: Jaiswal went hard for a drive off the first ball of the fifth over from Miraz, edged but it goes over Shanto even before the Bangladesh captain could react. Just too fast for him there and it goes for a four. The next ball is then slog swept hard by Jaiswal for another boundary. He gets off strike next ball and has raced to 11 off nine.
India 34/1, need 61 to win
India vs Bangladesh Live Score, 2nd Test Day 5: Wow, Rohit has absolutely nailed that sweep shot off Miraz and put it straight down the throat of the long leg fielder. So Rohit falls to Miraz in both innings of this match.
Rohit Sharma c Hasan Mahmud b Mehidy Hasan Miraz 8 (7)
India 18/1 in 2.1 overs
India vs Bangladesh Live Score, 2nd Test Day 5: Jaiswal meets the second ball of the over with a glorious drive and that goes to the boundary. Couple of singles next two balls and then Jaiswal whips out the square drive for another four. Just beautiful batting from the youngster, he is on 10 off six.
India 18/0, need 77 to win
India vs Bangladesh Live Score, 2nd Test Day 5: No big fireworks from India and yet, they get eight runs off that first over. Rohit Sharma goes for a big swing leg side off the third ball after running two off the second, it took the toe end of the bat and he only got a single. Jaiswal takes a single next ball and then Rohit sweeps the fifth to the boundary for a four. Rohit on seven off five, Jaiswal on one off one. Shakib Al Hasan to bowl the next over.
India vs Bangladesh Live Score, 2nd Test Day 5: Right, Mehidy Hasan Miraz starts the Bangladesh attack. Rohit Sharma on strike with Yashasvi Jaiswal at the other end. Still over 60 overs left today and so chances of seeing the kind of fireworks that we did yesterday is low. India 95 runs away from victory.
India vs Bangladesh Live Score, 2nd Test Day 5: That was almost two different sessions tucked into one. Especially, it seems, in the minds of the Bangladesh batters who came out after drinks looking as unfocused as someone who just had a half-an-hour break and a hearty meal.
Ashwin dismissed first innings centurion Mominul cheaply but captain Shanto and opener Shadman perfectly balanced attack and caution to put up a 50-plus stand. Then Rohit changed things up, brought in Ashwin and Akash Deep after drinks and Bangladesh fell like a pack of cards. Shanto decided its a sensible tactic to try a swanky reverse sweep on the very first ball he faced from Jadeja and perished. Shadman lost focus after scoring his half-century and fell to Deep. Litton Das and Shakib Al Hasan followed quickly and Bangladesh went from being 91/3 to 94/7.
Mushfiqur Rahim and Mehidy Hasan Miraz put up a 24-run stand off 32 balls before the latter became Jasprit Bumrah's first wicket of the innings. Mushfiqur then squeezed out 28 runs batting with the last two batters before himself being castled by Bumrah off the last ball of the session.
India vs Bangladesh Live Score, 2nd Test Day 5: Well Mushfiqur did as well as he could but the Bangladesh batters would be disappointed with themselves. Almost all of them fell to loose shots. This is now India's match through and through. They have somehow forced a dead Test match back to life and are now going to wrestle a win out of it. Unbelievable stuff from the hosts.
India vs Bangladesh Live Score, 2nd Test Day 5: Classic Bumrah, the last ball of the session is a slow one and that does it for Mushfiqur. The batter suddenly goes for a haymaker down the ground, probably intending to make the most of the last over of the session. He ends up being castled.
Mushfiqur Rahim b Bumrah 37 (63)
Bangladesh 146 all out
India vs Bangladesh Live Score, 2nd Test Day 5: The batters managed to run two runs off the fourth ball of the 46th from Jadeja and then Mushfiqur pushes the next ball through deep cover for a four. Jadeja tries firing the last ball wide T20 style but the umpire says he has bowled it too wide outside off. Then Mushfiqur ends up chopping the legal last ball to short third.
Now Rohit brings in Bumrah to try and send back Khaled in what is surely the last over of the session. Mushfiqur is on 37 off 62 balls
Bangladesh 141/9 in 46 overs, lead by 89 runs
India vs Bangladesh Live Score, 2nd Test Day 5: This is some really good stuff from the Bangladesh veteran. Once again, he denies singles throughout the next over from Ashwin, field brought up for the last ball with Rohit telling his bowler to let Mushfiqur hit a six. But the batter finds the gap in the offside and takes the single. Just seven minutes to go for the extra half an hour in this session now.
Bangladesh 134/9, lead by 82 runs
India vs Bangladesh Live Score, 2nd Test Day 5: A fascinating battle out there, as it often tends to be when a side is down to their last wicket with a recognised batter at one end. Mushfiqur farms strike throughout the over, denying singles and Rohit brings the field up for the last ball. He even shouts at Jadeja to let Mushfiqur hit a boundary. But Jadeja fires it into the pads, and Mushfiqur tucks it through square leg for a well-worked single. Pant shouts in frustration. Mushfiqur on 30 off 50, Khaled on nought off six.
Bangladesh 133/9 in 44 overs
India vs Bangladesh Live Score, 2nd Test Day 5: Mushfiqur fended away the first two balls and then swept the third very well towards deep point. Pant and Rohit shout at the fielder Akash Deep that it is going to spin away from him once it bounces, and it did; thankfully for India, he managed to catch it with his outstretched left hand. Kohli and a few other fielders couldn't stop laughing at that. Big LBW appeal off the fifth ball against Khaled. Umpire shook his head and Rohit went for DRS. It was missing the stumps and so India are down to their last review. Jadeja continues from the other end.
Bangladesh 132/9 in 43 overs, lead by 80 runs
India vs Bangladesh Live Score, 2nd Test Day 5: Mushfiqur Rahim on strike, he is on 28 off 41, he has Khaled Ahmed at the other end. We are into the 43rd over of the innings now and this last innings stand is into the third over. That extra half an hour is ticking away slowly, Bangladesh would feel really good about themselves if they manage to survive it.
Bangladesh 131/9, lead by 79 runs
India vs Bangladesh Live Score, 2nd Test Day 5: Well Taijul runs out of luck at long last. Full delivery, straightening at the last minute and it hits Taijul on his pads. The batter takes the review though. No bat on it and ball tracking shows that the ball would have hit leg stump. This also means that play could be extended by half an hour in this session.
Taijul Islam lbw b Bumrah 0 (13)
Bangladesh 130/9 in 40 overs
India vs Bangladesh Live Score, 2nd Test Day 5: All right then, Jasprit Bumrah to bowl the 40th over with three mins left before Lunch. Once again, Taijul on strike. Can he survive another over like this. Mushfiqur at the other end is doing all he can to get the runs in the face of some unrelenting pressure from India. He is on 27 off 36, Taijul on nought off nine.
Bangladesh 130/8, lead by 78 runs
India vs Bangladesh Live Score, 2nd Test Day 5: Mushfiqur ends the 38th over by Jadeja with back to back fours. He had no choice but to do it really and so Taijul Islam is on strike to face Bumrah next over. He does well though, negotiates the over succesfully, even digging out a trademark Bumrah yorker third ball.
Bangladesh 126/8, lead by 74 runs
India vs Bangladesh Live Score, 2nd Test Day 5: Bumrah replaces Akash Deep and Miraz nicks him behind off the third ball. India into the Bangladesh tail now. Fullish good length delivery third ball from Bumrah straightening away from Miraz. He hangs out his bat and edges it behind to Pant. India can see victory in sight now, Bangladesh still lead by only 66 runs.
Miraz c Pant b Bumrah 9 (17)
Bangladesh 118/8 in 36.3 overs
India vs Bangladesh Live Score, 2nd Test Day 5: The second ball of the over from Akash Deep is wide and Mushfiqur sends it away through point for a four. The fifth ball is fullish and gets the outside edge of Mushfiqur, it goes past the slip cordon for a four. Single off the next ball keeps Mushfiqur on strike to face Jadeja in the 36th over.
Bangladesh 114/7
India vs Bangladesh Live Score, 2nd Test Day 5: It isn't exactly game over for Bangladesh though, they bat deep. Mehidy Hasan Miraz is the new man in and he joins Mushfiqur Rahim.
India vs Bangladesh Live Score, 2nd Test Day 5: Jadeja bowls his third over and takes his third wicket as well. If that is the last time Shakib batted in a Test match, it is a very sorry way to end a great career indeed. Shakib just spoons it back to Jadeja and Bangladesh are suddenly down to their last three wickets.
Shakib Al Hasan c & b Jadeja 0 (2)
Bangladesh 94/7 in 31.2 overs
India vs Bangladesh Live Score, 2nd Test Day 5: Well Bangladesh are collapsing now. Five dot balls in that over and Litton looks to tap away the sixth. But then Jadeja gets it to turn and bounce, surprises Litton who still brings the bat near the ball. Edge and Pant takes the simple catch. Litton doesn't even bother reviewing it.
Litton Das c Pant b Jadeja 1 (8)
Bangladesh 94/6 in 30 overs
India vs Bangladesh Live Score, 2nd Test Day 5: Shadman throws his hands at a wide one and edges it straight to Jaiswal at slips. Once again, a well set Bangladesh batter gone due to a loose shot. Akash Deep fires the fourth ball of the 29th so wide outside off it wouldn't hit any of the stumps if they were placed beside the three that are already there. Islam reaches all the way out for it, nick and gone.
Shadman Islam c Jaiswal b Akash Deep 50 (101)
Bangladesh 93/5 in 28.4 overs
India vs Bangladesh Live Score, 2nd Test Day 5: What an innings this has been from the Bangladesh opener. He dug in yesterday and switched gears today. 50 in 97 balls, he is the first Bangladesh opener to score a Test half-century in India. Shadman gets there with a single off the last ball of that over from Jadeja.
Bangladesh 93/4 in 28 overs, lead by 41 runs
India vs Bangladesh Live Score, 2nd Test Day 5: Jadeja strikes with his second ball of the innings! Flat and quick on leg, Shanto looks to reverse sweep but he misses it entirely. The leg stump is gone. The Bangladesh captain tried to throw Jadeja off his line off the very first ball that he faced against the left-armer and so one could say that Shanto has thrown it away here.
Najmul Hossain Shanto b Jadeja 19 (37)
Bangladesh 91/3 in 27.2 overs
India vs Bangladesh Live Score, 2nd Test Day 5: Just a run off Akash Deep's first over of the day. Now Rohit hands the ball to Jadeja from the other end. It is his first over of the innings, having not bowled yesterday.
Bangladesh 90/3 in 27 overs, lead by 38 runs
India vs Bangladesh Live Score, 2nd Test Day 5: We have a Test match in our hands all right. Credit to Bangladesh. They were flattened comprehensively yesterday and lost an early wicket in the form of first innings centurion Mominul Haque. But Shadman and Shanto have rallied and countered. The number of big discussions between Rohit and his trusted lieutenants in the last three overs show that India are somewhat miffed that they haven't got another wicket.
Well Rohit has decided to bring in Akash Deep, who Tamim Iqbal says Bangladesh found the toughest to face among all Indian bowlers in the first Test. Let's see if he can get them the breakthrough.
Bangladesh 89/3 in 26 overs, lead by 37 runs.
India vs Bangladesh Live Score, 2nd Test Day 5: Well this is getting quite fascinating. A misfield at point fives Shadman four off the first ball of the 25th by Siraj. Then an authoritative cut off the fourth ball for another four. Shadman has moved to 46 off 92, Shanto on 18 off 27. Partnership between them has now reached 51 in 70 balls. Kohli and Rohit having a long chat after that over. This is starting to get worrying for India. They continue with Ashwin though, Akash Deep yet to bowl today. Will he be brought in after this over?
Bangladesh 87/3 in 25 overs, lead by 35 runs
India vs Bangladesh Live Score, 2nd Test Day 5: A nice little partnership developing here between Shanto and Shadman. They have put up 39 runs off 58 balls. Kohli having a long chat with Ashwin before the 24th over while Rohit is chatting with Pant at the other end. Ashwin has gone for a few runs here but Rohit is showing faith in his lead spinner.
Bangladesh 75/3 in 23 overs
India vs Bangladesh Live Score, 2nd Test Day 5: This is good stuff from Bangladesh. They need to bat as long as possible but they would also know that going into a shell is not going to help them. They are not the South African side of AB de Villiers and Hashim Amla. Shadman hits back to back fours off the first two balls of the 22nd over from Ashwin, before which Shanto sent the fourth ball of the previous over from Siraj through slips for four.
Shadman is on 36 off 80, Shanto on 11 off 20.
Bangladesh 69/3, lead by 17 runs
India vs Bangladesh Live Score, 2nd Test Day 5: We are seeing two different sides to Test cricket here. India had reached 50 in three overs yesterday, Bangladesh have reached the same mark in 18.3 overs today. Siraj is in as first change in the 19th over, replacing Bumrah, and Shanto takes a single off the second ball to get his team to that mark. Bangladesh now trail by 3 runs.
Bangladesh 50/3 in 19 overs
India vs Bangladesh Live Score, 2nd Test Day 5: The fifth ball of the 17th from Bumrah is a length delivery outside off, Shadman reaches out for it, it takes his outside edge and flies wide of Gill at third slip to go to the boundary. Shadman on 19 off 62, Shanto on one off eight.
Bangladesh 42/3 in 17 overs
India vs Bangladesh Live Score, 2nd Test Day 5: Lots of turn for Ashwin and he is also making the most of the uneven bounce. Bumrah bowls a maiden in the 15th over, Ashwin then gets an edge off Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto second ball of the 16th. It falls short of the slip fielder. Shanto takes a run off the fourth ball and then a leg bye. He is off the mark after eight balls, Shadman on 15 off 56.
Bangladesh 38/3 in 16 overs
India vs Bangladesh Live Score, 2nd Test Day 5: What a catch that is from KL Rahul at leg slip. India could not dismiss Mominul throughout the first innings, they send him back for two now. Rohit had placed Rahul there just before this over and the ploy works. Mominul confidently swept his way to a century yesterday. Today, Ashwin has strangled him down the leg side doing so. Rahul would've been blinded by the movement of the wicketkeeper but he stayed dead still and took the catch. He had some fumbles yesterday in the field, this would make him feel good.
Mominul Haque c Rahul b Ashwin 2 (8)
Bangladesh 36/3, trail by 16 runs
India vs Bangladesh Live Score, 2nd Test Day 5: Shadman whips the last ball from Ashwin off the backfoot past deep square leg for a four. Bumrah follows and Shadman drives the fifth ball superbly for another four. A positive start from Bangladesh, Shadman is on 15 off 49, Mominul on two off five.
Bangladesh 36/2 in 13 overs
India vs Bangladesh Live Score, 2nd Test Day 5: Right here we go then for what promises to be an incredible day of Test cricket no matter what be the result. Ravichandran Ashwin starts India's attack, Mominul Haque on strike with Shadman Islam at the other end. Mominul is on nought off two, Shadman on seven off 40, Bangladesh are 26/2 and trailing by 26 as well.
India vs Bangladesh Live Score, 2nd Test Day 5: No matter what happens today, we are in for an absolute cracker of a Day 5. A win for India after 2 and a half washed out days and on a pitch that doesn't have too many demons in it would be just utterly incredible. At the same time, they are so far ahead now that Bangladesh would have to put up the resistance of their lifetime to save this Test. And if they manage a victory well that could be counted among the greatest miracles in the history of Test cricket. So anything would be extraordinary, whether it be a draw or a result. India's T20-style batting has resurrected a dead Test and made it something truly unique.
India vs Bangladesh Live Score, 2nd Test Day 5: They are trailing India by 26 runs with the hosts having declared with a lead of 52 runs. Bangladesh have to somehow bat two full sessions at least here to even stand a chance at saving this Test against this Indian side who are smelling blood.
India vs Bangladesh Live Score, 2nd Test Day 5: Murali Kartik and Athar Ali Khan say that this pitch could have some uneven bounce, balls could stay low. This is something we saw yesterday as well, with Yashasvi Jaiswal most prominently being dismissed by a delivery that stayed too low.
India vs Bangladesh Live Score, 2nd Test Day 5: KL Rahul smashed 68 in 43 balls yesterday. He tells the broadcasters that the message from captain Rohit Sharma was very clear. It can be summed up as: "Hulk, smash".
"Message was very clear. Most of the game was lost to weather but we wanted to see what we could do in the time that was left. We lost a couple of wickets but since the message was so clear from Rohit that it doesn't matter if we get out, we tried to do that," said Rahul.
India vs Bangladesh Live Score, 2nd Test Day 5: Whether India win it or not, what they did with the bat yesterday was something that has rarely ever been seen in the history of Test cricket. The fact that this happened is testimony to two things. The first is that India's dominance at home truly is something quite unique, considering the fact that they had the confidence to do something as bonkers as they did yesterday. The second is that this is a validation of sorts for the World Test Championship as India may not have the motivation to squeeze out a win like this had it not been for the fact that they know they need to make the most the home Test season to reach the WTC final.
India vs Bangladesh Live Score, 2nd Test Day 5: We are under half an hour away from the start of play and the players are warming up in the middle. India are the most dominant side at home in Test cricket for more than a decade by some distance but a win in this match looked beyond even their reach. For that, they would've had to do some video-game batting. Well, that is exactly what they went and did and still, there is a lot left to do. If India do pull this off today, it has to go down as one of the most astonishing feats in the history of Test cricket.
India vs Bangladesh Live Score, 2nd Test Day 5: … or not. We don't know that for sure yet. Shakib had said that his desire is to finish his career with a Test match against South Africa if they decide to tour Bangladesh. That tour is happening but now the question remains as to whether it will be safe for Shakib to play in Bangladesh. Shakib the cricketer may be an undisputed legend of Bangladesh cricket but Shakib the politician has not had the greatest of times, even having to stay away from his nation ever since the Awami League government amidst widespread turmoil.
India vs Bangladesh Live Score, 2nd Test Day 5: The part of the day that you may remember the most would be India's batting and so you might be surprised to hear that a whopping 18 wickets fell. But you can't be blamed because 437 runs were scored as well in 87 extraordinary overs.
India vs Bangladesh Live Score, 2nd Test Day 5: Kanpur's outfield troubles has reignited debate over whether India should restrict its Test venues to those that have good drainage systems. The weather was at the centre of everything but it has all cleared up now. We had more than a full day of play yesterday, with extended sessions and the extra half an hour in the end. We are going to have the same today as well.
India vs Bangladesh Live Score, 2nd Test Day 5: There were a couple of absolute screamers during Bangladesh's first innings yesterday and the first of those was from captain Rohit Sharma himself. Litton Das was looking dangerous but Rohit stuck his hand up for one of his attempted heaves and the ball just stuck. Here is an angle of his teammates analysing that catch in the seconds after it took place.
India vs Bangladesh Live Score, 2nd Test Day 5: No, the great man did not speak to the media after the day's play about the incident. He could be seen bouncing around in the slips cordon, as he does always, and his body movements made it pretty obvious that this was the topic of the conversation.
India vs Bangladesh Live Score, 2nd Test Day 5: Even Virat Kohli, who is known to be as patient as they come while batting in a Test match, went all guns blazing yesterday. The former Indian captain eventually ended with a score pf 47 off 35 balls, hitting four fours and a six. But there was a rather hilariously hairy moment early in his innings when he and Pant found themselves facing each other right in the middle of the pitch instead of completing their runs. The bowler Khaled Ahmed picked the ball up and Kohli had accepted his fate, even almost started to walk back to the pavilion. But Khaled somehow missed the stumps from a foot away. He didn't even need to throw the ball, he could've just flicked the bails away. If anything, that summed up the day for Bangladesh, especially with the ball.
India vs Bangladesh Live Score, 2nd Test Day 5: ...and this club includes Sachin Tendulkar and Umesh Yadav! Not too many cricketing stats where those two can be placed together. Add to that Rohit Sharma and the West Indies' Foffie Williams (Who once hit his his first six balls of a Test match for 6, 6, 4, 4, 4, 4) and you have what has to be the most rarest of rare bunchings in the sport. Rohit Sharma hit both of the first two balls he faced yesterday for sixes. That was just the fourth time a batter did so in a Test match after Williams (vs Jim Laker, England in Barbados 1948), Tendulkar (vs Nathan Lyon, Australia in Chennai 2013) and Umesh (vs George Linde, South Africa in Ranchi 2019).
