India Star Poised for BCCI Central Contract Despite Eligibility Questions; Three New Players Likely to Join
16 days ago | 5 Views
The BCCI is expected to announce its central contracts soon, and there are some exciting additions on the way. According to a report from Cricbuzz, while most familiar names are likely to keep their spots, a few talented young players may make the cut, even if they don't fully meet the eligibility requirements.
One player to watch is Abhishek Sharma. The dynamic left-handed batsman from Punjab and Sunrisers Hyderabad has been turning heads with his impressive performances, especially in the current IPL season. At just 24, Abhishek has already played in 17 T20Is, with 12 of those falling within the BCCI's eligibility timeframe, which runs from October to September.
Under the board's usual guidelines, any player who has participated in at least 10 T20Is, 8 ODIs, or 3 Tests during that period qualifies for a Grade C contract. Abhishek is now poised to secure his first Grade C contract, valued at INR 1 crore per year.
Another name gaining traction is Nitish Kumar Reddy. The 21-year-old all-rounder from Andhra has made a mark in various formats, having played five Tests and four T20Is, including all five Tests in the recent Border-Gavaskar Trophy series in Australia. His involvement in the red-ball squad puts him in a strong position for a central contract.
Harshit and Chakaravarthy are about to be added
Kolkata Knight Riders bowler Harshit Rana is under consideration as well. Although he hasn't met the individual criteria for any single format—having played two Tests, five ODIs, and one T20I—his overall experience across different formats might be enough to earn him a spot, according to reports.
Varun Chakaravarthy is another player who could make a comeback, having participated in four ODIs and 18 T20Is throughout his career. He returned to T20Is last year and played a crucial role in his ODI debut, delivering strong performances during India's Champions Trophy victory. Additionally, Shreyas Iyer, who shone in the Champions Trophy, is anticipated to be included again.
There probably won't be significant changes at the top, as Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, and Ravindra Jadeja are expected to keep their Grade A+ status. While some minor adjustments may occur, a complete overhaul isn't expected.
In addition to player contracts, updates regarding India's support staff are also anticipated soon, with decisions reportedly made in recent discussions.
