India Dominant: Ex-Coach Predicts Easy Champions Trophy Victory

Team India is exhibiting a "ruthless" approach in their gameplay. Their dominance across all facets of the game suggests that they are poised to secure the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 with relative ease, according to former Indian cricketer Lalchand Rajput. India advanced to the semi-finals of the Champions Trophy after securing victories against Bangladesh and Pakistan in the group stage. They are set to compete against New Zealand in their final group match on March 2 (Sunday), although this encounter is largely ceremonial as both teams have already qualified for the knockout phase.

The semi-final match for India is scheduled for March 4 at the Dubai International Stadium. In anticipation of the New Zealand game and, more significantly, the semi-finals, Rajput emphasized that India does not allow their opponents any opportunities and consistently seeks to assert their dominance. "This Indian team appears relentless. They aim to control and win every match, ensuring that their opponents have no chance to recover. That is their mindset. Given their current form, I believe they should win the Champions Trophy decisively," Rajput stated to PTI.

Rajput served as India's manager during their T20 World Cup victory in 2007 under the leadership of a young MS Dhoni. Currently, he is the head coach of the UAE cricket team and witnessed Virat Kohli achieve his 51st ODI century in the six-wicket triumph over Pakistan in Dubai on Sunday. He now anticipates that captain Rohit Sharma will also reach a significant century.

"With Virat's century, all expectations have been met. Now it is up to Rohit to secure a substantial hundred," Rajput remarked, adding that the "Indian team possesses a clear instinct to decisively overcome their opponents."

"We have consistently observed that India performs at a higher level when the stakes are elevated."

The experienced coach also issued a warning to the team ahead of their match against New Zealand on Sunday.

"In cricket, one must never underestimate the game. Each match holds significance, as a moment of complacency, even in a few overs, can alter the outcome. Therefore, we must perform at our highest level consistently. We cannot afford to relax at any point," he stated.

"India has won both of its previous matches convincingly. However, in cricket, nothing is certain; we must approach each game individually. We should not underestimate New Zealand. They are a stronger team compared to Pakistan and Bangladesh, having also secured victories in both their matches, which boosts their confidence," he emphasized.

Regarding Kohli's exceptional performance, the former Indian player remarked, "Virat delivered an outstanding innings, showcasing his talent. We often refer to him as King Kohli, and he has reaffirmed that title. He possesses the temperament required for significant matches and is a player for crucial moments." Given the team's excellent form, he does not advocate for any changes in the lineup for the forthcoming match, which holds little significance since both teams have already qualified for the semi-finals.

"I doubt they will experiment with anything new, as maintaining momentum is vital when the team is performing well. Unless there is an injury or a player needs rest, I do not foresee any alterations. The decision ultimately lies with the management, especially with a few days between matches. However, I firmly believe in sticking with the winning team," Rajput commented.

Fielding remains the sole area where this Indian team can improve, according to the former coaches of Afghanistan and Zimbabwe.

"Indeed, we can always enhance our fielding. At critical moments, we cannot afford to drop catches. Fielding is an aspect where we can consistently strive for betterment.

"I attended the last game and will certainly be present for the next one as well. The match against New Zealand and the semi-finals, and hopefully the finals too," he concluded.
