Rohit Sharma is regarded as one of the most celebrated cricketers in history, and his appearance at Wankhede Stadium on Sunday caused a significant stir among fans. The occasion was the celebration of the stadium's 50th anniversary. It is a familiar scene for Rohit, as he often attracts crowds seeking autographs and selfies whenever he is in public.
This was vividly illustrated in a viral video from the event, where Rohit was seated between cricketing icons Sachin Tendulkar and former captain Ajinkya Rahane. Suddenly, a young fan clad in a Team India jersey approached Rohit, requesting an autograph while seemingly overlooking the presence of Sachin and Rahane.
Young fan ignores Rohit Sharma's fist-bump request
In a heartwarming moment, Rohit agreed to sign the fan's bat and attempted to follow up with a fist-bump. However, to his astonishment, the young fan disregarded the gesture and ran off, leaving Rohit momentarily embarrassed, while Rahane found the situation amusing. To Rohit's delight, the young fan soon returned and offered him a fist-bump.
As a native of Maharashtra, Rohit has dedicated his entire domestic career to the Mumbai state team and has represented the Mumbai Indians in the IPL since joining from Deccan Chargers in 2011. He has previously captained both teams.
In a video shared by the MCA on X, Rohit reflected on the significance of Wankhede Stadium in his cricketing journey, expressing his admiration for the venue. “When I played for the first time, the old stadium… it had its own charm. And now, you know, this venue right now has special memories involved with Indian cricket, Mumbai Indians, and age group cricket of Mumbai Cricket Association. So I just want to wish everyone the best for the coming years as well. And hopefully, we can create more and more memories at this very venue,” he stated.
The 37-year-old is presently facing significant pressure following his disappointing performance with the bat during the recently finished Border-Gavaskar Trophy, in which India suffered a 1-3 defeat. His struggles were so pronounced that he chose to withdraw from the final Test against Australia, leading to Jasprit Bumrah stepping in as the substitute captain.
