India Bowler on BCCI's Family Rule: "Let's Prioritize What’s in Our Hands"

India and Delhi Capitals bowler Mohit Sharma has responded to the BCCI's updated policy concerning the presence of family members during player tours. This topic has sparked significant reactions from various cricketers, including Virat Kohli. However, Mohit offered a more measured perspective, highlighting the importance of players concentrating on aspects they can influence.
According to the new regulations, family members, including spouses and children, may accompany players for a period of 14 days after the initial two weeks on tours that last longer than 45 days. For shorter tours, the allowance is limited to one week.
This policy change was implemented following India's 3-1 defeat to Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
In an interview with ANI, Mohit Sharma stated, “There are certain factors that we cannot control. While everyone has their own views, it is crucial to focus on what we can manage. How can having families around be detrimental? If something is beyond our control, it is better to accept it. Instead of discussing such issues, we should direct our attention to what we can influence.”
Mohit's remarks came in response to Kohli's comments on the matter, as the renowned Indian batsman has been vocal about the importance of having family support for players.
How Kohli reacted
At the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) Innovation Lab Indian Sports Summit, held in anticipation of IPL 2025, Virat Kohli expressed his views with clarity.
"It is quite challenging to convey to others how grounding it is to return to your family after experiencing intense situations externally," he stated, as reported by ESPNcricinfo.
"I believe many people do not fully grasp the significance of this. It is disheartening because individuals who lack control over external circumstances are often drawn into discussions and positioned at the forefront, leading to the notion that they should be kept at a distance," Kohli remarked.
The former captain of India elaborated, "I aspire to maintain a sense of normalcy. This allows me to regard my game as a responsibility. Once that responsibility is fulfilled, I can return to my life."
Kohli further highlighted the importance of family in creating a sense of normality. "Life presents various situations constantly, and this enables you to remain genuinely normal. It is not just a vague concept; it is a tangible experience where you complete your obligations and return home to your family, where normal family life continues. For me, this represents a day filled with immense joy, and I seize every opportunity to spend time with my family whenever possible."
