"Imran Khan Would Have Beaten Me Up!" – Wasim Akram on Pakistan Team’s Diet Blunders
2 months ago | 5 Views
Legendary fast bowler Wasim Akram criticized the Pakistani players for their dietary choices following their significant loss to India in the Champions Trophy match on Sunday. Pakistan, which is hosting the Champions Trophy in a hybrid format, has been eliminated from the tournament at the group stage after suffering defeats in their initial two matches against New Zealand and India. Following the loss in Dubai, the Pakistani team required assistance from Bangladesh to secure a victory over New Zealand. However, on Monday, New Zealand triumphed over Bangladesh with a five-wicket victory in Rawalpindi, thereby confirming their advancement to the semi-finals alongside India.
The disappointing performance has placed the Pakistani players under scrutiny, as senior figures such as Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, and Shaheen Afridi have once again underperformed in this ICC event.
Akram expressed his astonishment when he noticed a plate of bananas being served during a drinks break.
"I believe it was the second or third drinks break when I saw a plate full of bananas being brought out for the players. Even monkeys do not consume that many bananas. This is their diet. If it had been our captain Imran Khan, he would have reprimanded me for this," Akram remarked during a post-match discussion on the show 'Dressing Room.'
‘Pakistan’s bowling average is second worst’
The renowned fast bowler, who achieved a remarkable total of 502 wickets throughout his distinguished ODI career, criticized the Pakistan bowlers for their disappointing performance in the last five matches, asserting that their bowling average is inferior to that of Oman and the USA.
"This situation has reached a breaking point. You have elevated them to stardom. In the past five ODIs, Pakistan's bowlers have secured only 24 wickets at an alarming average of 60 runs per wicket. Our performance is even worse than that of Oman and the USA. Among the 14 teams participating in ODIs, Pakistan's bowling average ranks as the second worst," he remarked.
He further called upon the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board to convene the selection committee and the captain to address pressing questions regarding the team selection for the Champions Trophy.
"Chairman, please engage with the captain, selection committee, and coach to inquire about the rationale behind their selections. Have Khusdil Shah and Salam Agha ever demonstrated the ability to take wickets? I have been vocally expressing my concerns for weeks about the inadequacy of this squad, yet the chairman insists they have assembled the best team," he stated.
