"Ihsanullah Takes a Stand: Retires from PSL After Draft Snub"

Pakistan fast bowler Ihsanullah, who made a significant impact while playing for Multan Sultans in PSL 8, has announced his decision to permanently withdraw from the league and retire after failing to attract interest from any franchise during the PSL 10 draft. The draft, which occurred on January 13 (Monday), did not yield any opportunities for Ihsanullah. In a statement to Public News shortly after the draft, he clarified that his choice to boycott and retire from the PSL was a deliberate decision rather than an impulsive reaction.

"I have decided that I no longer wish to participate in franchise cricket. This marks the end for me. I am completely boycotting and retiring from the PSL. I will not return to the league. I aim to represent Pakistan through my performances in domestic cricket, rather than in the PSL," he stated.

When questioned about his relationship with Multan Sultans' owner, Ali Tareen, Ihsanullah expressed that he had not received any communication from the franchise, which contributed to his sense of being overlooked.

"No one has reached out to me; this industry can be quite self-serving. When someone finds another option, they pursue it. He [Ali Tareen] used to recognize my talent and support my performance," he remarked.

"If you perform well, these franchises will seek you out. My objective is to compel them to pursue me, and I must deliver performances that warrant that attention. I plan to bowl at speeds of 150-160, and for those who believe I am a 130-135 bowler, in a month and a half, I will demonstrate that I am not the same bowler who participated in PSL 8 and suffered an injury. I will present a much-improved version of myself," he concluded.

Ihshanullah's injury bad luck

Ihsanullah's remarks were a reaction to Ali Taren's assertion, in which the owner of the Multan Sultans stated that the fast bowler would struggle to reach speeds of 150 km/h following the elbow injury he sustained in 2023 during a series against New Zealand.

“It is indeed a regrettable situation; however, we consulted a leading surgeon regarding Ihsanullah's condition, who delivered some rather grim news. He indicated that while surgery is an option, the extensive scarring from a previous unsuccessful operation means that his arm will never achieve perfect alignment, preventing him from bowling as effectively due to the lack of a straight arm. Unfortunately, one individual's error has jeopardized a player's career,” Ali remarked.

“Consequently, even now, he has been bowling in domestic matches at speeds of 130-135 km/h, which is commendable, but he was originally capable of reaching 155 km/h,” he continued.

After securing 22 wickets with an impressive economy rate of 7.59 for the Multan Sultans in PSL 8, Ihsanullah was promptly included in Pakistan's T20I squad. He made his debut against Afghanistan in March 2023, followed by another T20I against New Zealand. He also debuted in ODIs during the same series, but his participation was curtailed due to an elbow injury.

His recovery process was fraught with challenges and ultimately led to the resignation of Pakistan's chief medical officer after an independent report revealed significant mismanagement regarding his injury.

Ihsanullah returned to competitive cricket during the Champions T20 Cup, where he claimed two wickets across four matches.
