The 22-year-old has now addressed the situation regarding his retirement against LSG. During that match against Rishabh Pant's team, Varma was at 25 runs from 23 balls when the management decided to substitute him with Mitchell Santner. In an interview with Star Sports after the match, Varma stated, "I didn’t think much of it. I understood that the decision was made for the benefit of the team. I chose to view it positively rather than negatively. Ultimately, it’s about how you perceive such situations that matters most."

He further expressed, "I just want to feel at ease regardless of where I bat. I assured the coach and staff, 'You can place me anywhere, and I will be comfortable and give my best.'"

Tilak Varma has emerged as the second-highest run-scorer for Mumbai Indians in IPL 2025, amassing 210 runs across five innings with an average of 42 and a strike rate of 143.83.

With this victory over Delhi Capitals, Mumbai Indians have moved up to the seventh position in the points table, achieving two wins out of six matches.
