Royal Challengers Bengaluru made a successful return to form on Monday, securing a thrilling victory against the Mumbai Indians at the renowned Wankhede Stadium, winning by 12 runs. This marked RCB's third triumph in the ongoing IPL 2025 season, with all victories occurring away from their home ground. Their sole loss was sustained at Chinnaswamy Stadium last week against the Gujarat Titans.

However, following the match against MI, Rajat Patidar found himself in a precarious situation, prompting the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to take decisive action. The captain of Royal Challengers Bengaluru was penalized due to his team's slow over-rate during the IPL encounter with the Mumbai Indians.

According to the IPL media release, "As this was his team’s first offence of the season under Article 2.2 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct, which addresses minimum over-rate violations, Patidar was fined INR 12 lakhs."

Patidar credits Krunal Pandya for win

Patidar received the Player of the Match accolade for his impressive innings of 64 runs off 32 balls, yet he expressed high regard for Krunal Pandya's courageous performance during the final over of their intense match against the five-time IPL champions.

This victory at Wankhede marked RCB's first win at this venue against the Mumbai Indians in a decade. The match remained closely contested until the very end, with the hosts requiring 19 runs from the last six deliveries. Krunal made a significant impact by dismissing Mitchell Santner and Deepak Chahar with the first two balls of the final over, and he followed up by taking out Naman Dhir on the second-to-last ball, concluding with impressive figures of 4-45 and contributing to his brother Hardik's team's fourth defeat in five games.

"It was a challenging situation, and his bowling was remarkable," Patidar remarked. "His display of bravery was outstanding. It was evident that we needed to extend the game as long as possible, allowing us to utilize one over from KP at the end."
