IPL 2025: LSG Dominates Hyderabad with Impressive Performance

Mumbai: Rishabh Pant correctly called the toss and, adhering to the traditional etiquette associated with Lucknow, opted to have the opposing team bat first. Following this decision, the Lucknow Super Giants displayed their dominance over Sunrisers Hyderabad, defeating the Orange Army in their own fast-paced style. They successfully chased down a target of 191 runs in just 16.1 overs, securing a crucial away victory, which marked their first win of the season.
Nicholas Pooran delivered an explosive performance, scoring 70 runs off 26 balls, including 6 fours and 6 sixes, while Mitchell Marsh contributed a brisk 52 runs off 31 balls, featuring 7 fours and 2 sixes. Their efforts silenced the Hyderabad crowd, who had come out to support the team led by Pat Cummins.
The aggressive nature of SRH was evident, as they continued to play aggressively. This was highlighted when Abhishek Sharma attempted to clear the deep square leg boundary off a short delivery from Shardul Thakur. Unfortunately for him, he misjudged the shot and was caught by one of the few fielders positioned deep.
Thakur provided LSG with a fortunate breakthrough. The Indian all-rounder, often referred to as the "man with the golden arm" due to his knack for taking wickets, consistently lives up to this reputation.
On the very next delivery, Thakur dismissed Ishan Kishan, the centurion from the previous match, without scoring. Kishan edged the ball down the leg side. In consecutive matches, Thakur has claimed two early wickets. Recently added to the LSG squad to strengthen their weakened bowling lineup, Thakur concluded his spell with impressive figures of 4 overs, 34 runs, and 4 wickets.
Travis Head was performing well at the other end. Thanks to Thakur's early breakthroughs, SRH found themselves at 62 for 2 with the fielders up. Although they were still hitting aggressively, they were not achieving their usual explosive start.
In terms of fortune, Head encountered his fair share of luck during the match. He was nearly dismissed twice in the seventh over, a rarity for Pooran, who dropped a catch on this occasion. Furthermore, Ravi Bishnoi was unable to secure a sharp return catch. Head was on scores of 36 and then 42 when these chances were missed, but he ultimately could not take advantage of them, ending his innings at 47 runs off 28 balls.
Prince delivered a commendable performance (4-0-29-1) by consistently targeting the stumps at a respectable pace, interspersing slower deliveries to keep the batsmen uncertain. His efforts during the middle overs reduced SRH's scoring rate to below 10 for the first time around the 14th over.
It was clear that SRH would not give up easily, even with the loss of wickets. At 128/5 in the 15th over, Aniket Verma, making his IPL debut, aggressively swung his bat, hitting four sixes in just eight balls with impressive striking against LSG’s spinners—two off Bishnoi and two off Digvesh Rathi.
Following his dismissal, SRH lost another wicket while chasing quick runs. At 156/7 in the 16th over, facing the prospect of being bowled out, Pat Cummins responded by hitting three sixes off the first three balls he faced.
By adhering to their high-risk strategy throughout the innings, they managed to accumulate several overs with runs exceeding 10, finishing with a total of 190. However, on a batting-friendly pitch, this total proved insufficient.
