ICC Embarrassed as Pakistan's Name Disappears from Champions Trophy Logo During IND vs BAN Match
27 days ago | 5 Views
The International Cricket Council (ICC) faced significant embarrassment when Pakistan's name reportedly disappeared from the Champions Trophy 2025 logo during the live telecast of the Group A match between India and Bangladesh at the Dubai International Stadium. The Champions Trophy logo, which is meant to prominently display the name of the original host nation (Pakistan) in the top left corner of every live broadcast, was correctly shown during the tournament's opening match between Pakistan and New Zealand in Karachi. However, during the subsequent match featuring India and Bangladesh, Pakistan's name was conspicuously absent.
This incident sparked considerable speculation and criticism across social media platforms. The controversy began when the Indian government denied permission for Team India to travel to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy. In response, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), and the ICC engaged in extensive discussions regarding the tournament's venue. After numerous meetings, a consensus was reached to adopt a hybrid model, designating Dubai as the location for all of India's matches.
The disputes continued as the tournament approached. Just prior to its commencement, reports emerged indicating that India's Champions Trophy jersey did not feature Pakistan's name as the original host, a claim that was subsequently dismissed by the BCCI.
ICC provides clarification for missing Pakistan name
Following the broadcast of the India vs Bangladesh match, events began to unfold in a similar manner. However, this time, the ICC responded promptly. According to a report by Geo TV, an ICC spokesperson explained that Pakistan's name was absent from the broadcast logo due to a technical error. He further assured that all matches involving India would display the official logo featuring Pakistan's name during the broadcast.
"The omission was a result of a graphics-related technical issue, which will be corrected starting tomorrow. It was not feasible to alter the logo during the match."
The ICC representative also noted that Pakistan’s name was visible in social media clips, indicating that the glitch was confined to the broadcast.
India and Pakistan are set to compete in the next Group A match in Dubai on Sunday, which has become a crucial game for Pakistan following their 60-run defeat to New Zealand in their opening match.
