"I Was Shi*** Myself": KL Rahul's Unfiltered Reaction After Champions Trophy Win
11 days ago | 5 Views
KL Rahul epitomized the collective anxiety of the team as wickets tumbled around him. The dismissals of Axar Patel and Hardik Pandya heightened the tension. However, Rahul, a pivotal figure in India's pursuit, remained not out until the conclusion, securing India's third ICC Champions Trophy. While Ravindra Jadeja ultimately scored the winning runs, Rahul's contribution of 34 runs from 33 balls was equally, if not more, significant than any other key performance from the Indian side.
Following the match, Rahul, displaying a rare moment of vulnerability, acknowledged the pressure he felt during the game. He entered the crease after a remarkable partnership between Shreyas Iyer and Axar Patel had been disrupted. With India still requiring 69 runs for victory and New Zealand's spinners tightening their grip, Rahul was the batter India needed most at that critical juncture. Having faced similar situations frequently in recent times, he rose to the occasion and did not disappoint.
Here's what Hardik had to say
I found it challenging to express this on camera, but I was extremely anxious. Although we had a few batters remaining, I felt a significant amount of tension. It is crucial to maintain a sense of calm and composure in such situations. I believe I have faced similar circumstances in three out of the five matches in this tournament, and in one of those matches, I did not have the opportunity to bat at all against Pakistan, Rahul remarked during an interview with the host broadcaster.
"It is difficult to articulate, but it is a testament to our skills and the way we have developed our cricketing abilities from a young age. We have encountered numerous challenges and have been under pressure since we first picked up a bat and chose to pursue professional cricket. The BCCI's guidance and the training we received in the domestic circuit have equipped us to manage pressure effectively and perform well in such situations."
