Vaibhav Suryavanshi inscribed his name into the record books on Monday by achieving the fastest century by an Indian in Indian Premier League (IPL) history. The 14-year-old prodigy from Rajasthan Royals (RR) hit a hundred off only 35 balls against Gujarat Titans (GT), surpassing the prior record held by former India all-rounder Yusuf Pathan, who had made a 37-ball century for RR against Mumbai Indians in 2010.
Who is Vaibhav Suryavanshi?
Born On March 27, 2011, Vaibhav Suryavanshi comes from Motipur village in Samastipur, Bihar, where he was raised in a modest farming family. He gained attention when he hit a century on his debut in a U-19 Youth Test match against Australia at the mere age of 12. The young talent was acquired by RR for ₹1. 1 crore at the IPL 2025 auction in November of the previous year. He had a remarkable debut, hitting a six off the first ball he encountered.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi's Family
Vaibhav's Coach, Manish Ojha, discussed the young cricketer’s journey in a conversation with Cricketnext.
Ojha disclosed that Vaibhav started training with him at the age of nine, making a 100-kilometer trip from Samastipur to Patna every other day for practice.
“Vaibhav approached me when he was about nine years old. The distance between his hometown Samastipur and Patna is nearly 100 km, and he used to visit my coaching center every other day. Vaibhav began training around 7:30 am and continued until the evening, before heading back home. He adhered to this routine for over four years," Ojha stated to Cricketnext.
The sacrifices made by his family have been substantial. Vaibhav's father, Sanjiv Suryavanshi, who once had dreams of becoming a cricketer himself, sold farmland to support his son’s aspirations.
“Vaibhav continued to gain recognition in Bihar, but his parents have played a crucial role. His mother woke up early at 4 am to prepare meals for Vaibhav. His father accompanied him to practices and matches. We contributed as coaches, but his parents are the true driving forces,” Ojha remarked. “Vaibhav and his father had long decided that the child would pursue cricket. The father had desired to play cricket, but was unable to do so. Therefore, he sought to fulfill his dream through his son. ”

“The villagers here are delighted. It is a source of pride for our district, state, and country. His father has made significant contributions to his success. My brother (Vaibhav’s father) was also a cricket player. Hence, he wanted his child to be in this profession,” he shared with ANI.
Vaibhav’s grandmother, Usha Singh, also expressed her feelings.
“I congratulate him. . . He has had an interest in cricket since he was 3 years old. I pray to God for his success,” she conveyed to ANI.
