Heinrich Klaasen of South Africa has been penalized 15 per cent of his match fee for kicking the stumps following his dismissal in the second ODI against Pakistan in Cape Town. Klaasen scored 97 runs off 74 balls and was effectively the last hope for South Africa as they succumbed to an 81-run defeat, thereby allowing Pakistan to secure the series victory.

Klaasen was the final wicket to fall for South Africa, with the team requiring 82 runs from 42 balls at that moment. He attempted to pull a delivery from Naseem Shah on the first ball of the 44th over but was caught out, marking the conclusion of his innings and South Africa's chances. In a moment of frustration, he kicked the stumps.

The ICC stated, "One demerit point has also been added to his disciplinary record for violating Article 2.2 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which pertains to 'abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment or fixtures and fittings during an International Match'."

Klaasen's earlier clash with Pakistan players

A confrontation occurred between Klaasen and Pakistan's captain, Mohammad Rizwan, earlier in the match. The incident began when Haris Rauf bowled the final delivery of the 26th over and made a remark to Heinrich Klaasen, which clearly displeased him. The umpires intervened, urging the players to continue with the game.

Subsequently, Mohammad Rizwan became involved, engaging in a lively discussion with Klaasen, which included some finger-pointing directed at the South African batsman. Klaasen, for his part, was not inclined to back down.

Babar Azam then approached the two players to ascertain the nature of the disagreement. As Haris Rauf moved closer to Rizwan and Klaasen, Babar instructed him to step back. The situation quickly returned to normal, allowing the match to proceed. In pursuit of 330 runs, South Africa's chances of victory hinged on Heinrich Klaasen, who delivered an impressive performance, scoring 97 runs off 74 balls, including 8 fours and 4 sixes.

Despite Klaasen's efforts, he struggled to find reliable partners at the crease, ultimately contributing to an 81-run victory for Pakistan.
