Kolkata: Yashasvi Jaiswal and Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who are 37 years old together, led the assault at the Chinnaswamy Stadium with a score of 205/5, as if it were a violent storm. With his first delivery, Jaiswal struck Bhuvneshwar Kumar with such force and accuracy into the stands that the stadium was nearly silenced by the audacity of the stroke. The 14-year-old Suryavanshi, not wanting to be left out, threw his hands at everything, hitting some, edging some, but still managing to score. In 4.2 overs, Jaiswal and his opening partner established a 52-run partnership, which was a start that Rajasthan Royals should have capitalized on, as Jaiswal galloped to a 19-ball 49. They assumed this to be the case.

The subsequent act had to be just as excellent. In 20 balls, Riyan Parag and Nitish Rana combined for 38 runs, bringing the Royals ahead of the required run rate by about three runs. Parag attempted a slog sweep on the first delivery of Krunal Pandya's first over, but he ended up making a huge mistake. Four overs later, Pandya was once again in front, this time getting rid of Rana, who chose Kumar at short fine leg after dancing around a bit. However, after Shimron Hetmyer was dismissed by the relentless Josh Hazlewood, Dhruv Jurel was responsible for completing the chase.

Jurel raised Kumar over his head for a six, needing 40 off 18 deliveries. With an equally scorching six, Shubham Dubey helped a short ball on leg over deep. With two further boundaries from Jurel and Royals, the equation was reduced to 18 from 12 thanks to 22 runs in that over. But Hazlewood responded with a two-wicket turnaround in tow. After a well-timed review prompted by wicketkeeper JItesh Sharma, who had noticed an edge that was mistaken for a bump, Jurel was sent back. With the following delivery, Jofra Archer tossed a straightforward catch to Rajat Patidar, and Hazlewood concluded that over by giving up just one run. The Royals were unable to rebound from that loss, giving RCB a much-needed 11-run victory.

RCB vs RR Highlights, IPL 2025: RCB's ...

That RCB managed to score at 10 runs per over is not unexpected, but it must be gratifying given that it occurred at home, on what mentor Dinesh Karthik described as a 'difficult pitch'. Despite losing the toss for the fourth consecutive time—this time at home—Royals invited the home team to bat. Phil Salt had a hard time, though. Parag made a strong dive in his early life, but he was unable to hold on to a low catch off a chip.

Kohli was defeated on the top edge by Archer's 146 kph delivery, and then he almost chopped it onto his stumps for a streaky four. But once the English pacer went short, he pulled him over square leg for a fantastic boundary. Despite Tushar Deshpande, Riyan Parag, and Sandeep Sharma all being hit for four, Kohli's graft stood out as RCB concluded the Powerplay with a score of 59/0. Padikkal, who immediately hit the ground running, smashed a 26-ball 50 before spooning Sandeep to Nitish Rana at mid-off after Salt's dismissal. Tim David scored 23 runs in 15 balls, and Jitesh Sharma contributed 20 runs in 10 balls, helping RCB in the final four overs.

Looking back, it seemed like the Royals likely lost a lot of ground during that 95-run second-wicket partnership. In addition to Padikkal being dropped by Deshpande in the 13th over due to a sloppy fielding display by the Royals, Deshpande also misplayed his slog sweep the moment his hands made contact with the ground.

The fact that they continued to search for boundaries even when they weren't looking for simple runs through the gaps only served to increase RCB's scoring momentum. After Pandya eliminated Parag, the Royals never did that. The asking rate gradually returned to what it had been at the start of the chase as Hetmyer was unable to get enough of the strike and Jurel was having trouble connecting bat to ball.
