The conclusion of the 2025 season of the Women's Premier League (WPL) brought immense joy to the Mumbai Indians and profound disappointment to the Delhi Capitals. In a gripping finale held at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai, MI maintained their composure to secure an eight-run victory over Delhi, thereby reclaiming the WPL title after a two-year hiatus.

The Mumbai players erupted in exuberant celebrations as they celebrated their second WPL championship in history. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur, who was awarded Player of the Match for her impressive 66 runs off 44 balls, shared a heartfelt embrace with team owner Nita Ambani, marking a memorable moment for the franchise. Ambani also congratulated Nat Sciver-Brunt, who skillfully defended 14 runs in the final over.

Conversely, South African player Marizanne Kapp was visibly emotional, shedding tears as her teammates offered consolation. This defeat marked her second consecutive loss in a final, having previously experienced a similar outcome with her national team in the T20 World Cup against New Zealand last year.

For Meg Lanning and her team, the situation was one of deep frustration as Delhi faced their third consecutive defeat in a WPL final. Despite finishing at the top of the league stage in each edition, they have been unable to secure victory in the championship match on all occasions.

Harmanpreet powers Mumbai Indians to second WPL title

Harmanpreet delivered an exceptional captain's performance, leading MI to their second WPL title. The Indian star reserved her finest display for the crucial match, as her dazzling half-century played a vital role in guiding MI to a competitive total of 149 for 7, despite a lackluster contribution from her teammates.

Although MI's score was perceived as suboptimal on a favorable batting surface, the Delhi batters placed excessive pressure on themselves, ultimately concluding their innings at 141 for 9, despite a late rally from Marizanne Kapp and young talent Niki Prasad.
