Emotions ran high for Hardik Pandya and R Sai Kishore during the intense match between the Gujarat Titans and Mumbai Indians at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Hardik faced off against the franchise he captained to an IPL title in 2022, and tensions escalated as he confronted Sai Kishore during a challenging 197-run chase. Despite their friendship off the field, the two players found themselves in a heated exchange that caught the attention of many spectators. Although Pandya could not lead his team to their first victory of the season, as Mumbai lost by 36 runs, he made it a point to reconcile with his former teammate Sai Kishore after the match.
The confrontation occurred in the fifteenth over of the Mumbai Indians' innings when Sai Kishore and Hardik exchanged heated words. Following a dot ball, the Gujarat Titans spinner directed a fierce glare at Pandya, which provoked the Mumbai Indians captain. Pandya did not hold back, responding with strong language and approaching Sai Kishore. The two players engaged in a brief staredown on the pitch, prompting the umpires to intervene and separate them.
However, during the post-match customary handshake, the two players hugged it out and had a laugh to put an end to what happened in the heat of the moment.
Sai Kishore concluded his bowling spell with impressive figures of 1/37 over four overs, securing the vital wicket of Tilak Varma.
Hardik struggles with the bat as MI remains winless in their first two matches.
Conversely, Hardik, who excelled with the ball, could not find his form with the bat against his previous team. The prominent all-rounder took two wickets for 29 runs but managed only 11 runs off 17 balls, leading his team to a second consecutive defeat this season. Rabada dismissed him in the 17th over, which significantly impacted the outcome of the match.
Prasidh Krishna (2/18) and Mohammed Siraj (2/34) were the standout bowlers for Gujarat, successfully limiting Mumbai to 160/6 in their 20 overs after scoring 196/8 while batting first. Siraj made an early impact during the batting powerplay by dismissing openers Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton, but it was Krishna who asserted his dominance by claiming the crucial wickets of Suryakumar Yadav (48) and Tilak Varma (39) in the middle overs.
