Kane Williamson is known for his composed demeanor on the cricket field, making it challenging to discern his thoughts. However, during the ICC Men's Champions Trophy 2025 Group A match at the Dubai International Stadium, he momentarily revealed his emotions after being struck on the hands by a powerful shot from India's all-rounder Hardik Pandya.
The incident occurred on the fifth delivery of the 45th over. William ORourke delivered a well-pitched ball that unexpectedly bounced higher than anticipated. Pandya executed a fierce cut shot, sending the ball directly to Williamson at backward point, where it swiftly reached him and caused a sharp sting to his hand.
In response, Williamson displayed a rare display of animation, kicking his feet and flinching his hands to express the discomfort he felt from the impact. He shook his hands vigorously and jumped around in an attempt to alleviate the pain.
This unexpected moment of levity also amused commentators Ravi Shastri and Sunil Gavaskar, who found the situation quite entertaining.
Earlier, Hardik Pandya and Kane Williamson were observed engaging in conversation following the conclusion of the second drinks break. Their interaction appeared amicable, with the former Gujarat Titans teammates exchanging smiles.

Matt Henry delivered a back-of-length ball, which Jadeja attempted to cut to Williamson's left. The New Zealand No. 3 batsman made a remarkable dive to secure the catch with his non-dominant left hand.
Earlier, Mitchell Santner, the captain of New Zealand, won the toss and chose to bowl first against India in their Group A match held in Dubai. The New Zealand bowling attack effectively restricted the Indian batsmen, leading to a total of only 249 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in the designated fifty overs.
Shreyas Iyer emerged as India's leading scorer with a contribution of 79 runs. Additionally, Axar Patel and Hardik Pandya provided valuable support with scores of 42 and 45, respectively.
Matt Henry was the standout bowler for New Zealand, claiming five wickets. Meanwhile, Kyle Jamieson, William O'Rourke, Mitchell Santner, and Rachin Ravindra each took one wicket.
Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli had disappointing performances, scoring 15 and 11 runs, respectively.
The winner of the match between New Zealand and India will advance to face Australia in the semi-final, while the losing team will compete against South Africa in the other semi-final.
