Hardik Pandya Comments on India's Stance on Champions Trophy in Pakistan

India, under the leadership of Rohit Sharma, secured the Champions Trophy for the third time by defeating New Zealand in the final of the 2025 edition held in Dubai. However, the team's achievement has been overshadowed by controversy regarding the 'advantage' debate, with numerous cricket analysts suggesting that the Indian squad benefited from being based in one location, which allowed them to familiarize themselves with the pitch conditions. When questioned about the decision not to travel to Pakistan for the eight-team tournament, all-rounder Hardik Pandya provided a thoughtful response.
Due to India's absence from Pakistan, the tournament adopted a hybrid format, with Rohit Sharma and his team competing in Dubai.
India successfully topped Group A, achieving victories over Pakistan, Bangladesh, and New Zealand, and advanced to the final by overcoming Australia, led by Steve Smith, in the semi-final.
“I am confident that the Pakistani community residing in Dubai appreciated our performance. The reasoning behind our absence is beyond my expertise," Hardik Pandya remarked to reporters during a mixed-zone session following the final.
In the Champions Trophy, Hardik Pandya accumulated 99 runs and claimed four wickets as a bowler. Notably, he secured the crucial wicket of Babar Azam in the Group A match against Pakistan.
"I have always played cricket with the intention of winning. This is not merely a statement; I prioritize the team over personal accolades. Regardless of my individual performance, the success of the team is paramount. This mentality has equipped me to confront challenges and has taught me the importance of resilience," Hardik Pandya stated.
“If challenges are formidable, respond with determination. Continue to fight. Do not abandon the field. Surrendering prevents growth and learning. It is akin to fielding; if you dive, you can stop the ball. If you refrain, you will never grasp the consequences," he concluded.
'Bowling very close to my heart'
Hardik Pandya expressed his deep passion for bowling, emphasizing that this facet of his game holds significant importance for him. In the semi-final match against Australia, he showcased his exceptional hitting ability by successfully facing renowned spinner Adam Zampa.
"Recently, bowling has become a vital part of my identity. When I am bowling, I feel assured about my batting performance. My bowling effectively supports my batting," Hardik remarked.
"I have had a fondness for hitting sixes since I was 14, but I lacked the necessary strength back then. Now, I possess the power, and the years of dedication are yielding results at the right moment," he continued.
The all-rounder also mentioned that with their victory in the 2025 edition, the team has avenged the loss suffered in the 2017 tournament, where India faced defeat against Pakistan in the final at The Oval, London.
"Having won now, I can confidently say that I have avenged the loss from the 2017 final. However, eight years is a considerable span; much has transpired since then. For me, India's victory is paramount. Our fans back home are delighted; this is the best contribution we can make," Hardik stated.
"This team thrives on camaraderie and shared success. It is not driven by individual accolades; it is Team India. We all believe that anyone can step up to finish the game or create something extraordinary. We have united for a common objective; individual scores do not matter as long as the team emerges victorious," he concluded.
