MS Dhoni showcased his classic form with a crucial unbeaten innings of 26 runs off just 11 balls, leading the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to a five-wicket victory over the Lucknow Super Giants in an IPL 2025 match at Ekana, Lucknow. Former Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh praised Dhoni for guiding the team to success.

Harbhajan noted that Dhoni has a unique presence when he’s in charge and expressed his excitement about seeing him bat higher in the order. Earlier this season, Dhoni had batted at No. 9 twice, which raised eyebrows and drew criticism from analysts who questioned the decision to place him so low.

When Dhoni stepped onto the field, CSK needed 56 runs from 30 balls. He partnered with Shivam Dube to create an unbroken 57-run partnership for the sixth wicket, ultimately securing the win for CSK, marking their second victory of the season.

“MS Dhoni is like Baahubali. The captain demonstrated his capabilities by batting higher up the order. No. 9 is not where he belongs. He came in at the perfect time against the Lucknow Super Giants and played exceptionally well. He scored his runs while also supporting Shivam Dube. Dhoni has that Midas touch; he really turned back the clock. His bowling changes were spot on. Everything shifts when he’s captain; he just brings a different vibe. He approaches batting differently too,” Harbhajan shared on his YouTube channel.

“He knows exactly what to do. Coming in at the right time and place put the pressure back on Lucknow. His 26 runs off 11 balls relieved a lot of tension. When Dhoni takes the helm, he transforms completely. The team plays with a different energy under his leadership. Kudos to CSK and congratulations to Dhoni,” he added.

Luck can work wonders

In the match against Lucknow, MS Dhoni made history by becoming the first wicketkeeper to achieve over 200 dismissals in the IPL, thanks to his stumping of Ayush Badoni.

Later on, Dhoni surprised everyone with an underarm throw that caught Abdul Samad out at the non-striker's end.

"Even that run-out of Abdul Samad shows he has a bit of luck on his side. Luck really works wonders for him. With Dhoni around, anything can happen," Harbhajan commented.

Even with the victory over LSG, CSK is still sitting at the bottom of the points table, holding just 4 points from 7 games.

Next up, CSK will face the Mumbai Indians at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Sunday, April 20.
