Abhishek Sharma has garnered significant attention for his exceptional performance in the fifth T20I match between India and England held at the Wankhede Stadium. Notably, he not only achieved a remarkable score of 135 runs off 54 balls but also claimed two wickets. Former spinner Harbhajan Singh, who had the opportunity to captain Abhishek during his inaugural year in the Ranji Trophy, expressed his desire to see the 24-year-old enhance his bowling skills, emphasizing that he possesses "all the qualities" necessary to excel as a leg spinner.

"I would like to see him bowl more," Harbhajan remarked on his YouTube channel. "From the outset, I have been telling him that his seam position is quite impressive. He does not dedicate as much effort to his bowling as he does to his batting. Even today, whenever I encounter him, I discuss his bowling because batting is his primary passion, and he will undoubtedly focus on that. He can certainly improve his bowling, as he has all the attributes needed to become a proficient leg spinner," Harbhajan added.

Harbhajan praised Abhishek's innings, noting that while he recognized his talent during his under-19 days, he never anticipated that the opener would deliver such a remarkable performance. During his innings at the Wankhede Stadium, Abhishek struck seven fours and an astonishing 35 sixes. In addition to establishing a new record for the highest score by an Indian in this format, he also set a new benchmark for the most sixes hit by an Indian player in a T20I match.

Harbhajan projects Test success for Abhishek

Abhishek may possess a first-class average of 30.60 across 24 matches; however, Harbhajan believes he has the potential to achieve success akin to that of aggressive players such as Travis Head, as well as legends like Virender Sehwag and Viv Richards from previous eras.

"On his best days, he can dominate the game. Travis Head exemplifies this, as did Virender Sehwag and Viv Richards. These are the types of players who propel the game forward. Whether it is today or in the future, his opportunity in Test cricket will arise. It is essential to have a player of Sehwag's caliber in Test cricket—someone who can come in, deliver powerful performances, and change the course of the game. Abhishek Sharma has the potential to be that player," Harbhajan remarked.
