HCA Responds to SRH's Allegations of 'Blackmail and Threats' Over Ticketing Dispute

The Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) held a meeting with officials from Sunrisers Hyderabad on Tuesday at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium. This meeting was prompted by allegations from the franchise that the president of the state body had engaged in blackmail and threatened its staff at the home venue. Representatives from SRH, including Kiran, Saravanan, and Rohit Suresh, were present.
On Sunday, Cricbuzz reported that the SRH team, which is owned by the Chennai-based Sun Group, accused HCA president Jagan Mohan Rao of employing "blackmailing tactics" regarding ticketing issues. The franchise even reached out to the BCCI and the IPL Governing Council for assistance.
According to a recent communication from SRH to the HCA Apex Council members, "It is the HCA President, Mr. Jagan Mohan Rao, who is resorting to threats, coercion, and blackmail. Even before the IPL commenced, Rao threatened our staff with coercion, prompting them to send him an email documenting the threat."
SRH further alleged that Rao locked the entire corporate box hours before the match against Lucknow Super Giants on March 27, despite being aware that the area was reserved for LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka. The email stated, "This was done solely to blackmail us and exert coercive pressure to provide an additional 20 complimentary tickets before the game."
However, the HCA refuted these claims on Tuesday.
The press release from both SRH and HCA indicated that during discussions, SRH suggested adhering strictly to the existing tri-party agreement among SRH, HCA, and BCCI, which stipulates that 10% of the stadium's capacity across all sections should be allocated accordingly. In response, HCA proposed to maintain the current allocation of passes in each category, consistent with long-standing practices.
Following further discussions with SRH CEO Shanmugam, three resolutions were reached:
1. The allocation of 3,900 complimentary passes to HCA will remain unchanged, in line with established practices.
2. HCA has assured SRH that they will fully professionally cooperate with SRH.
3. HCA and SRH remain committed to working together amicably to enhance the spectator experience at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium.
