India, Jan. 20 -- Following his triumph at the World Chess Championship in Singapore, D Gukesh has emerged as one of the most celebrated figures in India. His recent activities include attending numerous felicitation ceremonies, taking selfies with Bollywood celebrities, and starring in a viral advertisement alongside Viswanathan Anand, all of which have contributed to his newfound fame.

After securing the World Championship title in December of the previous year, Gukesh chose to forgo participation in the Rapid and Blitz Championship. He made his competitive comeback at the Tata Steel Chess Masters held in Wijk aan Zee, Netherlands, where he commenced the season with a significant victory over Dutch grandmaster Anish Giri, followed by a draw against Slovenia's Vladimir Fedoseev in the second round.

During the Tata Steel Masters, the Indian grandmaster discussed his recent advertisement with Anand, in which the chess icon humorously sought Gukesh's assistance in connecting with the younger generation and understanding their vernacular.

"It was one of my initial advertisements. I believe it would have been considerably more challenging without Vishy Sir, as this is not precisely my usual demeanor. The concept was enjoyable, especially with the amusing outfits I wore. However, working with Vishy Sir made it all the more enjoyable," he remarked.

Gukesh also shared a humorous anecdote regarding Anand's attempt to learn Michael Jackson's dance moves. "We were laughing between takes, and I recall Vishy Sir attempting the Michael Jackson step. We repeated it about 10-15 times because we kept cracking up. Overall, it was a lot of fun, and many people were impressed with my acting," he noted.

In the advertisement, Gukesh tells Anand, "Sir, nobody can teach this, especially at your age." He quickly corrects himself, adding, "... at your stature, I meant. The key is to understand pop culture!"

In response, Anand stands up and strikes a pose reminiscent of Michael Jackson, playfully stating, "I know Michael Jackson."

Following the Tata Steel Masters, Gukesh is set to participate in the inaugural tournament of the Freestyle Chess Slam, where he will compete against notable players, including Anand and Magnus Carlsen.
