Gujarat Titans faced a significant setback on Thursday as fast bowler Kagiso Rabada headed back to South Africa during the ongoing 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) season. Rabada had already missed GT's last match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru on Wednesday at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium.

According to a statement from the franchise, Rabada, who participated in the Titans' first two games of IPL 2025, returned home due to personal reasons. "Kagiso Rabada has gone back to South Africa to address an important personal matter," the Gujarat Titans announced.

During the toss on Wednesday, GT captain Shubman Gill revealed that Rabada would not be part of the playing XI against RCB for personal reasons. The South African bowler had struggled in his first two outings, with figures of 1-41 against Punjab Kings and 1-42 against Mumbai.

In his absence, Arshad Khan was included in the playing XI and made an impact by troubling Virat Kohli with the new ball, eventually getting him out for just seven runs. With no updates on when Rabada might return, the team may turn to his fellow countryman, Gerald Coetzee, who they acquired for INR 2.4 crore in the auction last November, or Afghanistan all-rounder Karim Janat.

So far, Gujarat has secured two wins out of three matches this season. After a high-scoring loss to Punjab Kings in their opener, they bounced back with a 36-run victory over Mumbai Indians and an eight-wicket win against RCB. Their next challenge is against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Hyderabad on Sunday.
