Gujarat Titans Acquire Dasun Shanaka from Sri Lanka to Replace Glenn Phillips

The Gujarat Titans, under the leadership of Shubman Gill, have signed Sri Lankan all-rounder Dasun Shanaka to replace the injured Glenn Phillips for the remainder of the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL). Shanaka has been acquired for INR 75 lakh. He was previously part of the Gujarat Titans' roster during IPL 2023, where he participated in three matches.
In those three appearances in IPL 2023, Shanaka accumulated 26 runs but did not have the opportunity to demonstrate his bowling skills.
For those unfamiliar, Dasun Shanaka has amassed 1,456 runs in 102 T20 internationals for Sri Lanka, along with 33 wickets in T20 matches. He has also played 71 One Day Internationals (ODIs) and 6 Test matches for his country.
Glenn Phillips sustained a groin injury during the Gujarat Titans' IPL 2025 match against SunRisers Hyderabad at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad, which led to his exclusion from the tournament. The New Zealand all-rounder has since returned home.
Additionally, the Titans previously lost South African fast bowler Kagiso Rabada, who departed for personal reasons. It remains uncertain whether Rabada will return to India for the remainder of IPL 2025.
As of now, the Gujarat Titans have not announced a replacement for Rabada, suggesting that the franchise remains optimistic about his potential return during the tournament.
Gujarat Titans' performance so far
Gujarat Titans have so far won four of their six games and are placed at the second spot in the points table. The franchise will next square off against Delhi Capitals in an afternoon game on Saturday, April 19 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
Gujarat Titans last played against Lucknow Super Giants, and the side faced a loss as Rishabh Pant-led side chased down 181 with six wickets in hand and three balls to spare.
Sai Sudharsan and Mohammed Siraj have been the standout performers so for as the duo have led the way with the bat and ball, respectively.
Sai Sudharsan is in the second spot in the Orange Cap leaderboard with 329 runs in six matches, while Mohammed Siraj has taken 10 wickets for the franchise in as many matches.
