Right-handed batter Gongadi Trisha etched her name in history by becoming the first centurion in the Women's U19 T20 World Cup. On Tuesday, she delivered a sensational knock, smashing an unbeaten 110 off just 59 balls in India’s Super Six match against Scotland at the Bayuemas Oval in Kuala Lumpur.
Trisha’s innings, featuring 13 boundaries and 4 sixes, came at an electrifying strike rate and propelled India to a formidable 208/1 in their allotted 20 overs. She was ably supported by Sanika Chalke, who remained unbeaten on 29, adding further momentum to India’s innings.
Earlier in the day, Scotland won the toss and chose to field. Indian openers Kamalini G and Gongadi Trisha dominated from the start, scoring boundaries with ease. The pair amassed 67 runs in the powerplay and built a remarkable opening partnership of 147 runs—the highest stand for any wicket in the ongoing Women's U19 T20 World Cup.
Kamalini departed in the 14th over after scoring a well-crafted 51 off 42 balls. Trisha, however, carried on her explosive form, reaching the historic century milestone off just 53 deliveries.
India’s imposing total of over 200 runs, spearheaded by Trisha's record-breaking innings, set the stage for a commanding performance in the match.
India register a commanding 150-run win
Aayushi Shukla, Vaishnavi Sharma, and Gongadi Trisha delivered a stellar bowling performance, claiming all ten wickets to dismiss Scotland for just 58 runs in under 14 overs.
Aayushi led the attack with four wickets, while Vaishnavi and Trisha took three wickets each. Scotland's openers, Pippy Kelly and Emma Walsingham, showed some resistance, but the rest of the batting order crumbled rapidly, resulting in a dominant victory for India.
Gongadi Trisha, with her outstanding all-round performance, was named Player of the Match.
Having already secured a spot in the semi-finals, India will play their next match on Friday, January 31. The tournament’s final is set to take place on Sunday, February 2.
