Punjab Kings have commenced their season on a positive note, securing a vital victory against Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad. The revitalized Punjab squad showcased a well-rounded performance, yet one player has once again attracted scrutiny—Glenn Maxwell. The franchise re-signed Maxwell for INR 4.20 crore as they embarked on a rebuilding journey under the guidance of new head coach Ricky Ponting. He was immediately included in the starting eleven for Punjab's opening match of the season; however, he failed to make a significant contribution with the bat during his return to the team.

Maxwell attempted a reverse sweep on his very first delivery but completely missed, resulting in his dismissal for a golden duck.

Former Indian opener Aakash Chopra remarked that Maxwell has once again left everyone uncertain about his performance in Punjab Kings' upcoming match against Lucknow Super Giants on Tuesday.

"One aspect to observe will be how Maxwell approaches his next game, as his playing style remains unpredictable. Whether he will score runs is anyone's guess. That's Glenn Maxwell for you. He was dismissed for zero in the previous match and should have opted for the DRS, but he refrained from doing so after executing a poor shot," Chopra stated on his YouTube channel.

Despite his batting struggles, Maxwell played a crucial role in Punjab's victory by taking the significant wicket of Shubman Gill, which shifted the momentum in favor of his team.

“Prabhsimran Singh also needs to score runs”

The former cricketer, now a commentator, believes that PBKS will include Azmatullah Omarzai and Marco Jansen as their two overseas fast-bowling options in the playing XI.

"If either Azmatullah Omarzai or Marco Jansen is left out, it will necessitate the inclusion of an additional batsman. They had previously promoted Azmatullah in the batting order. If he is absent, it will place greater responsibility on Maxwell," he remarked.

Additionally, he indicated that opening batsman Prabhsimran Singh, who was retained by PBKS following the last season, will face significant pressure to deliver substantial runs against LSG.

"Prabhsimran Singh must also contribute runs, as Priyansh Arya has been scoring, while Prabhsimran has not, despite being one of their retained players," Chopra noted.
