The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) took decisive measures on Tuesday against Glenn Maxwell, a batter for Punjab Kings, for violating the IPL code of conduct during the match against Chennai Super Kings at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Chandigarh. Punjab secured an 18-run victory, maintaining their position in the top four of the IPL 2025 points table, while Chennai fell to ninth place following their fourth consecutive defeat this season.

Maxwell received a fine amounting to 25 percent of his match fees and was assigned one demerit point for his infraction of the IPL Code of Conduct. According to the IPL media release, "Glenn Maxwell acknowledged the Level 1 offense under article 2.2 (abuse of fixtures and fittings during the Match) and accepted the sanction imposed by the Match Referee. The Match Referee's decision is final and binding for Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct."

Article 2.2 of the BCCI’s Code of Conduct for Players and Team Officials addresses the "Abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment, or fixtures and fittings during a Match."

The article specifies that it encompasses any actions outside the realm of standard cricket behavior, such as striking or kicking the wickets, as well as any actions that intentionally, recklessly, or negligently (even if accidental) cause damage to advertising boards, boundary fences, dressing room doors, mirrors, windows, and other fixtures. For instance, a player may commit this offense by swinging their bat in frustration and damaging an advertising board.
