The Border-Gavaskar Trophy has proven to be as thrilling as anticipated, with the intensity of the series carrying over into the third Test. Shubman Gill has dismissed any worries regarding the Australian captain Pat Cummins' assertion that the hosts might employ short-pitched bowling at the Gabba if necessary.

In a pre-match press conference, Cummins indicated that the Australian fast bowlers would not hesitate to deliver short balls to challenge the Indian batsmen, a strategy that had yielded some success during the second Test in Adelaide.

"Potentially, short-pitched bowling could be effective. It worked in the Adelaide Test, so it remains a consideration as a backup plan when situations become challenging. Given its success in Adelaide, I am confident we will attempt it at some point in this Test," Cummins stated. "For the tail-enders, it appeared that a wicket was quite probable."

Following Cummins' remarks, Gill addressed the media and was questioned about the Australian captain's comments. “To my knowledge, only one batsman, aside from the tail-enders, has been dismissed by short balls in this series. So, I am uncertain about the success he is referring to,” Gill remarked.

Cummins and Gill's KKR connection

Cummins and Gill were recognized for their strong camaraderie during their time as teammates at Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League. "Patty and I were part of KKR, and we developed a solid bond. I recall him giving an interview to the KKR management where he mentioned something about 'chin music,'" Gill shared during an appearance on The Grade Cricketer Podcast in 2021.

"During my innings, he kept attempting to bounce me, but I was leaving those deliveries. After the match, in a press conference, I remarked, 'If they have their chin music, we certainly know how to dance to it.' The playful banter continued, and he would tease me by asking, 'Where are your dance moves now?'" he added.

The third Test match between India and Australia is set to commence at the Gabba in Brisbane on Saturday. The five-match series is currently tied at 1-1, with India securing victory in the first Test in Perth by 295 runs, while Australia triumphed in the subsequent pink-ball Test in Adelaide by 10 wickets.
