Vinod Kambli, currently facing health challenges, has received support from the esteemed Sunil Gavaskar during this difficult period. The former Indian cricketer was hospitalized in December of the previous year due to a urinary infection and cramps, spending nearly two weeks in a Thane hospital before being discharged on January 1. Over the past few years, Kambli has encountered numerous health issues, including two heart surgeries in 2013, for which he received financial assistance from Sachin Tendulkar.

Kambli made headlines again when he attended the inauguration of the memorial for the legendary coach Ramakant Achrekar at Shivaji Park in Mumbai in December, an event also attended by Sachin. The former left-handed batsman, who represented India in 17 Tests and 104 ODIs from 1993 to 2000, appeared to be in poor health during the event, and shortly thereafter, he was hospitalized. In response to Kambli's struggles, Gavaskar pledged to assist him, stating that the 1983 World Cup-winning team would unite to support their teammate, a promise he has now honored.

As reported by the Times of India, Gavaskar has extended his help to Kambli through his CHAMPS Foundation, which provides aid to former international athletes in need. Established in 1999, the foundation has offered financial support to Kambli during his challenging times. The report indicates that starting April 1, Kambli will receive a monthly allowance of INR 30,000 for life, along with an annual allocation of INR 30,000 for his medical expenses.

Earlier this year, Kambli met Gavaskar at the opening ceremony for the 50th-anniversary celebrations of Wankhede Stadium in January. Despite struggling to walk, he showed his respect for Gavaskar by touching his feet.

“Gavaskar met two of Kambli's doctors…”

Gavaskar consulted with two of Kambli's physicians following their encounter at Wankhede Stadium. Anil Joshi, a close friend of Gavaskar and former teammate at Nirlon, disclosed that the iconic cricketer had been eager to support Kambli ever since he became aware of his declining health last year.

"After their meeting at Wankhede Stadium, Gavaskar met with Dr. Shailesh Thakur and another doctor, along with me. Once he was fully informed about Kambli's condition, he directed the CHAMPS Foundation to promptly initiate both financial and medical support," Anil Joshi shared with TOI.
