Following India's victory in the ICC Men's Champions Trophy 2025, Sunil Gavaskar proclaimed Rohit Sharma and his team as the "best white ball team on the planet." India secured their third Champions Trophy title by defeating New Zealand by four wickets in the final held at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, adding to their previous triumphs in 2002 and 2013.

This win represented India's second ICC title in eight years. The previous year, Rohit's squad ended a decade-long wait for silverware by clinching the T20 World Cup. Additionally, they reached the final of the 2023 ODI World Cup, although they fell short against Australia in that decisive match.

Throughout the Champions Trophy, discussions arose regarding whether India benefited from their location in Dubai, as they were familiar with the pitch conditions while other teams had to travel.

In contrast to the other participants, India remained in Dubai, leading several cricket analysts, including Nasser Hussain, Michael Atherton, and Vivian Richards, to highlight this potential advantage.

Nevertheless, Gavaskar dismissed these claims, stating that "cribbers can crib," but it is undeniable that India stands as the premier white ball team globally.

"Without a doubt, any team that reaches all three finals—the 50-over final where they were runners-up, the T20 World Cup victory, and now the Champions Trophy—should be regarded as the best white-ball team on the planet," Gavaskar remarked to India Today.

India advanced to the final of the Champions Trophy 2025 by defeating Australia in the semi-final match. Earlier, the team secured the top position in Group A by triumphing over Bangladesh, Pakistan, and New Zealand.

Gavaskar supported head coach Gautam Gambhir's remarks, asserting that certain individuals will always find reasons to complain regardless of the circumstances.

“There is absolutely no doubt about it. As Gambhir mentioned, those who complain will continue to do so, but reaching multiple finals without the benefit of home ground advantage and still achieving victory speaks volumes,” Gavaskar stated.

Following India's semi-final success against Australia in Dubai, Gautam Gambhir was questioned about whether his team had an edge due to familiarity with the conditions and prior preparation.

Gambhir dismissed such claims, stating that some individuals are "perpetual complainers" who need to "mature."

"There is considerable discussion regarding supposed undue advantages. What undue advantage? We have not practiced here even for a single day. Our training has taken place at the ICC Academy. The disparity between the pitches there and here is vast. Some individuals are simply perpetual complainers; they need to mature. Therefore, I believe there was no undue advantage or any premeditated strategy on our part," Gambhir remarked.
