Sanjiv Goenka, the owner of Lucknow Super Giants, engaged in a conversation with captain Rishabh Pant and head coach Justin Langer shortly after the Delhi Capitals secured a victory in the IPL 2025 match against LSG. Goenka appeared to be conversing amicably with Pant and Langer; however, fans on social media quickly drew comparisons to Goenka's previous animated interactions with former LSG captain KL Rahul. Following LSG's defeat to Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2024, Goenka was seen criticizing Rahul, which ignited considerable discussion among supporters. Ultimately, the franchise decided to release Rahul.

During the mega-auction, LSG made headlines by acquiring Pant for a record ₹27 crore, subsequently appointing him as the team's captain. However, Pant's performance in his debut match for LSG was disappointing, as he failed to score in six balls and made several mistakes in his leadership. Despite having the experienced bowler Shardul Thakur available for two overs, Pant opted to bowl Prince Yadav on his IPL debut when DC required 22 runs off 12 balls. Yadav conceded 16 runs in the crucial 19th over, after which Pant turned to Shahbaz Ahmed for the final over.

Legendary Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar, who was in the commentary box at the time, remarked on the live broadcast that Pant is aware of the mistakes he made during the match against DC on Monday.

I believe he is aware of the situation. In fact, he noted during the post-match interview that one often gains more insight from mistakes than from successes. When a player performs well, there is little to analyze, but when they struggle with either bat or ball, it becomes clear where improvements are needed. This is merely the first match, with 13 more to follow. Rishabh Pant is a perceptive cricketer, and he will have gained important insights into his batting and captaincy. I anticipate that we will witness an enhancement in his performance. Furthermore, when a captain contributes runs or takes wickets, it greatly enhances their confidence in making bowling changes and setting the field. Once he accumulates some runs, I expect his captaincy to become even more confident, Gavaskar remarked.

Gavaskar commended Ashutosh Sharma highly  

Gavaskar expressed strong admiration for DC batter Ashutosh Sharma, who scored an impressive unbeaten 66 off 31 balls, leading DC to a thrilling victory in the final over.
