Gautam Gambhir's Insulting Remarks About Sourav Ganguly Spark Controversy
3 months ago | 5 Views
The discord between Gautam Gambhir and Manoj Tiwary originated in 2015, during a Ranji Trophy match between Delhi and Bengal at the Arun Jaitley Stadium (formerly known as Feroz Shah Kotla). The situation escalated dramatically as the two former teammates from India and the Kolkata Knight Riders nearly engaged in a physical altercation on the pitch, exchanging harsh words. Since that incident, the rapport between Gambhir and Tiwary has remained strained. Even after a decade, Tiwary has continued to direct criticism at Gambhir, addressing his coaching methods, temperament, and recalling instances when the India head coach allegedly threatened him during their shared tenure at KKR.
Moreover, it is lesser-known that Gambhir also made disparaging remarks about former India captain and BCCI president Sourav Ganguly. According to Tiwary, Gambhir mocked Ganguly while targeting Tiwary. Tiwary, who maintains a close relationship with Ganguly, conveyed Gambhir's comments to him. In a display of his characteristic grace, Ganguly responded with poise and dignity.
Tiwary recounted, "When he was incessantly hurling insults, I recall that Sourav Ganguly had just joined the Cricket Association of Bengal. He was also making derogatory remarks about him. He said things like, 'He has used his connections to get where he is, and you have followed suit? You're engaging in similar antics too.' When I relayed this to Dada, he simply said, 'It's fine.' My responsibility was to inform him. It is evident that Gambhir has issues with anger. Since that day, there has been no possibility of communication or meeting between us." Tiwary shared these insights during an interview with The Lallantop.
Gambhir told me 'bahar mil… batata hu'
The incident stemmed from Gambhir's belief that Tiwary was deliberately prolonging the game with only 40 minutes remaining. Without any hesitation, Gambhir unleashed a barrage of verbal insults, which did not sit well with the Bengal batter. Tiwary further asserts that Gambhir provoked him to a physical confrontation after the match, intensifying the situation to a level that irreparably altered their relationship.
"I have never encountered such abusive language. If someone insults your mother, it is unacceptable to remain passive. I am not someone who can tolerate such insults quietly. I confronted him, asking, 'Gauti bhai, why are you speaking like this?'. After the over concluded, I lost my composure. He then said, 'meet me in the evening, I will beat you up'. I responded, 'why wait for the evening? Let's settle this now.' The match was taking place in Delhi. No player has ever spoken to me in such a manner. All the media personnel present witnessed the words he used," Tiwary recounted.
"The umpire intervened, and Gambhir even pushed him aside. Once the over was finished, I was at the non-striker's end when he approached mid-off and resumed his verbal assault. Umpires have limited options in such situations. He is a prominent player, and they fear the potential repercussions of his influence."
