India's head coach Gautam Gambhir couldn't hide his excitement when Australia’s captain Steve Smith got bowled and headed back to the pavilion during the first semi-final of the ICC Men's Champions Trophy 2025 at the Dubai International Stadium. Smith had been the backbone of Australia’s innings, but losing him really put a damper on their momentum.

As soon as Smith was out, the cameras zoomed in on Gambhir, who was caught applauding the wicket. He even let out a few choice words, clearly thrilled about the dismissal. Smith walked off after scoring 79 runs.

Gambhir was also seen clapping enthusiastically after the Australian captain's wicket fell on the fourth ball of the 37th over.

Smith misjudged a low full toss, trying to create space for a drive but ended up missing it completely, leading to his off-stump being knocked over.

He shook his head in frustration, clearly upset with how he got out, which gave India a much-needed boost in the match.

Australia was all out for 264 runs

Australia's captain Steve Smith won the toss and decided to bat first. Unfortunately, the team couldn't last the full 50 overs, getting bowled out for 264 runs.

Smith scored 79 runs, and Alex Carey added 61, but India kept taking wickets, making sure Australia stayed within reach.

For India, Mohammed Shami was the standout with three wickets, while Varun Chakaravarthy and Ravindra Jadeja each took two.

After the innings, Jadeja mentioned that the pitch was a bit better than the one they played on against New Zealand.

In an interview with the host broadcaster, Jadeja said, “The wicket is better than the last game, not much spin. We need to start well. If we play sensible cricket in the first 10 overs, then there won't be any issues.”

He also noted, “Smith and Labuschagne were batting well, and I focused on attacking the stumps. Thankfully, we managed to keep the runs down and took a few wickets too.”
