Gautam Gambhir Urged to Follow Aaqib Javed's Example to Tackle Test Issues

Gautam Gambhir, the head coach of Team India, is facing some serious heat after the team lost two Test series in a row and missed out on qualifying for the World Test Championship. Under his leadership, India got completely swept by New Zealand at home and then lost to Australia 3-1, marking their first Border-Gavaskar Trophy win in a decade. Now, Gambhir is in a tough position, needing to make some crucial decisions for the upcoming WTC cycle. The recent dip in form from key players like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma is raising eyebrows, and they also need to figure out who can step in for Ravichandran Ashwin in home Tests.
Former Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali has suggested that Gambhir should take inspiration from Aaqib Javed to curb the star culture within the team.
"Now is the perfect time for Gautam Gambhir to embrace Aaqib Javed's approach: 'give respect to cricket; those who don’t, it’s goodbye for them,'" Basit mentioned on his YouTube channel. "That should be the message."
Aaqib has recently stepped in as the interim head coach for both the white and red-ball teams, taking over from South Africa's Gary Kirsten and Australia's Jason Gillespie. He’s also part of the selection committee that made the bold decision to drop Babar Azam and Shaheen Shah Afridi from the Test squad for the England series.
Basit pointed out that Aaqib made some tough decisions, sending a clear message to the team that everyone is on equal footing.
"Aaqib has put an end to the superstar mentality in the Pakistan team. For those who thought they were irreplaceable, he made it clear that it’s just a misconception. He emphasized that every player holds the same value," he said.
Rohit and Kohli are definitely raising some eyebrows
Rohit and Virat, two legends of Indian cricket, had a rough time during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
Rohit missed India's only victory in the series during the first Test due to the arrival of his second child and ended up with just 31 runs across three matches.
As for Kohli, at 36, he did hit a solid century in the first Test, but overall, he didn't meet his usual expectations. He finished the series with only 190 runs in 5 Tests, averaging 23.75.
