Kevin Pietersen, the former England captain, believes that Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma still have a few good years ahead of them and can keep leading India to victories. Their performance has been under the microscope lately, especially after a lackluster showing in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
Recently, Rohit and Virat took part in the Ranji Trophy, representing Mumbai and Delhi, but they struggled to score runs, leaving fans wanting more.
The two veterans are set to return to the field in the upcoming three-match ODI series against England, which will be a great opportunity to gear up for the ICC Men's Champions Trophy starting on February 19.
In a chat with Star Sports, Pietersen emphasized that Rohit and Virat don’t have anything to prove, as they are already legends in the sport. He also praised Kohli as the best chaser India has ever seen.
“These guys are legends and don’t need to prove anything to anyone. They’re fantastic entertainers. They’ve got a couple more years left. Virat is the best chaser this country has ever produced," Pietersen stated.
“No other batter in the world has chased down and won more games for their country than Virat Kohli. When he’s on the field, he’s got to perform," he added.
'Love both of them'
Kevin Pietersen had some really nice things to say about Rohit Sharma, expressing that he always believed the Indian captain was destined for greatness after noticing him back in 2012.
“I’m a huge fan of both of them. I remember in 2012, during either a T20 or a 50-over World Cup, when Rohit was just breaking into the Indian squad. There was some criticism aimed at him, but I thought, ‘This young guy is going to be something special. He just needs the right support and opportunities,’” Pietersen shared.
“He’s shown that throughout his career. He was one of the first batsmen to go to Australia and really make an impact. He’d face bowlers bowling 140, and if they pitched it short, he’d just pull it and send it for sixes. He was phenomenal from the start and has kept that level of excellence going,” he continued.
Now, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have arrived in Nagpur to join the Indian team as they gear up for the three-match ODI series against England starting on February 6.
