Gambhir Warns Nitish Kumar Reddy About Workload After Injury Sidelines Young Star
2 months ago | 5 Views
Nitish Kumar Reddy, 21, is out of the current T20I series against England due to a side strain. He played in the first match of the five-game series and made two incredible catches at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Unfortunately, he won't be able to continue because of this injury.
Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra suggests that Nitish's body might not have been fully prepared for the demands and stress of international cricket, which could be why he got hurt.
The young player recently wowed everyone with his batting in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, often rescuing the team from tough spots. He even scored his first Test century at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
Nitish participated in all five Tests, and Aakash believes it might take some time for his body to adapt to the rigors of international play.
He made his international debut in the T20I series against Bangladesh last year and gained attention during the IPL 2024 while playing for SunRisers Hyderabad under Pat Cummins.
"Nitish Kumar Reddy is injured and out for the series. You might be wondering what happened. I’m curious too. The workload in international cricket is a whole different ball game," Aakash Chopra shared on his YouTube channel.
"Workload and pressure are closely linked. He played five Tests in Australia and did well. He was consistently on the field, batting and bowling a bit. It takes a toll on you. He’s still young, and sometimes the body just can’t keep up," he added.
Perhaps the body just wasn't prepared
Aakash Chopra raised some concerns about Nitish Reddy's heavy workload, especially since the all-rounder participated in all five Tests in Australia.
"You suddenly find out there's an injury. I think something's gone wrong. Maybe his body just wasn't up for this kind of strain and pressure, and he broke down. Shivam Dube has been brought into the squad to replace Nitish Kumar Reddy," Aakash Chopra mentioned.
Before the second T20I against England, which India won by two wickets, the BCCI released an update on the injuries of Nitish Kumar Reddy and Rinku Singh. Unfortunately, the all-rounder has been ruled out for the rest of the series, and Rinku will also miss the third T20I due to a low back spasm.
India is currently leading the five-match series 2-0, and they’ll be aiming to clinch the series in Rajkot when they face England in the 3rd T20I on Tuesday, January 28.
