Although the rain has not been heavy, its frustratingly sporadic nature has prevented the toss from occurring, leading to visible discontent among fans on social media.

The match, set to commence at 7:30 PM IST, has been accompanied by a series of weather updates that have fluctuated between hopeful and perplexing. The drizzle, characterized by on-site reporters as "annoyingly light," has intermittently persisted, compelling ground staff to keep the pitch covered. Despite occasional breaks in the rain and some encouraging moments with umpires and ground crew inspecting the field, there has been no official announcement regarding the timing of the toss.

What has frustrated fans the most is the decision to wait for the drizzle to cease entirely, despite its minimal intensity over prolonged periods. This optimism has done little to calm the nerves of supporters, particularly with the first ball initially slated for 7:30 PM and the toss expected to take place by 7:00 PM.

The officials are prepared to wait as late as 10:54 PM IST to accommodate a possible five-over match. Still, many are questioning the lack of urgency given the playable conditions for a large part of the evening. Adding to the irony, even BCCI officials were seen by the boundary without umbrellas or rain jackets; further evidence that the drizzle was indeed too slight to warrant a full delay.

To keep the crowd engaged, the organisers played footage from last season’s RCB vs CSK thriller, which also had a rain interruption and later produced a spinner-friendly surface. Could we see similar drama again tonight, if and when play begins?

For now, fans continue to wait – and vent.
