Jalin Turner faced a setback in his career as he suffered a defeat to Ignacio Bahamondes on Sunday at UFC 313, held at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The match proved challenging for both competitors, culminating in Turner being choked and submitted in the first round.

The contest commenced evenly, with Turner initially gaining the upper hand over Bahamondes. However, Bahamondes swiftly regained dominance, delivering downward elbows to Turner's head before ensnaring him with his legs. Despite Turner's efforts to escape, he ultimately succumbed to a triangle choke, leading to his submission at 2:29 of the first round.

Regarded as one of the premier fighters in the UFC, this outcome is a significant disappointment for Turner, particularly given the way the fight concluded. In an interview with Hindustan Times, Turner reflected on his journey into mixed martial arts during his childhood and the inspirations that fueled his passion.

“Yes, I began training a bit in high school, attempting to join the wrestling team. Unfortunately, I broke my finger. After that, I started watching MMA. In my senior year, I trained with friends in the backyard, engaging in sparring and boxing. I fell in love with the sport. I began self-training in my backyard, consuming numerous instructional videos on YouTube to learn various techniques,” he shared.

Turner also recounted his history of injuries as a child, which impacted his participation in other sports. “I experienced many injuries growing up from skateboarding, but I have been fortunate to have only two surgeries in my MMA career. Typically, it’s just minor bumps and bruises; you never enter a fight at 100%, but I strive to overcome those challenges and perform my duties effectively,” he explained.

Currently, Turner holds the No. 13 position in the UFC lightweight rankings. Following his defeat, he announced his retirement in a poignant manner, leaving his gloves in the ring. He concludes his professional career with a record of 14 wins and 9 losses at the time of his retirement.
