Argentine tennis player Francisco Comesana stirred up some controversy when he was seen smoking a cigarette during his qualifying match at the 2025 Miami Open against Michael Mmoh.

The unusual moment occurred right after he clinched the first set. As he settled into his seat, he took a quick puff in the middle of the match and even asked the chair umpire for a lighter, saying, "Excuse me, do you have a light?" The umpire, however, didn’t react to the request.

Surprisingly, this odd behavior didn’t hinder his performance; he went on to defeat his opponent in straight sets with a score of 6-3, 6-4, advancing further in the Masters 1000 qualifiers. He later faced Japan's Shintaro Mochizuki in the second round, winning that match 7-6 (7-4), 7-5, which allowed him to enter the main draw. Unfortunately, he was eliminated in the round of 128 by Italian player Federico Cina, losing 6-7(4), 6-7(2).

With this victory, the 17-year-old Cina became the youngest Italian to win an ATP tour match since Jannik Sinner in 2019. After his win, he expressed his joy, saying, "I'm very happy. It was very difficult. But I'm very happy to win. I started the match strong, played a great tie-break. In the second set, I was ahead 5-2, but then I got cramps. Still, it was great to stay focused on every point."

Cina comes from a strong tennis lineage; his father, Francesco, was the former coach of Italian tennis star Roberta Vinci and now runs a tennis academy in Palermo. Speaking about his son, Francesco noted, "Federico really enjoys this lifestyle and doesn’t feel pressured; he loves what he does."

He added, "Federico feels more comfortable on clay and hard courts, but he prefers hard courts overall. He needs to work on his serve, which will improve as he grows physically. We’ve focused on this during training, and I’m confident he’ll serve even better in the coming months. His forehand is improving significantly, while his two-handed backhand remains his strongest shot."
