Former Indian Star Analyzes Rohit Sharma and Rishabh Pant's Ranji Trophy Struggles

Former cricketer Aakash Chopra provided his insights regarding the performance of senior Indian players in the sixth round of the Ranji Trophy, noting that several prominent players did not meet expectations upon their return to the domestic red-ball format. Following a lacklustre red-ball season, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) advised senior players to participate in the Ranji Trophy to regain their form; however, the results have been less than favourable for many thus far. Notable players such as Rohit Sharma, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Rishabh Pant had disappointing performances with the bat.

Rohit, who faced challenges during the tour of Australia, had an unremarkable comeback in the Ranji Trophy, managing only 3 runs off 19 balls in the first innings against Jammu and Kashmir. He performed better in the second innings, scoring a more respectable 28, which marked his highest score in first-class cricket since achieving 52 in the second innings of the Bengaluru Test against New Zealand last year.

Chopra also commented on Mumbai's difficulties against Jammu and Kashmir, despite the presence of a formidable batting lineup.

"The match was taking place very close to my residence. You may wonder what I am referring to. I am discussing the Mumbai versus Jammu and Kashmir match, and at the time of this recording, Mumbai is indeed struggling significantly. The team boasts players like Rohit Sharma, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ajinkya Rahane, Shreyas Iyer, Shivam Dube, and Shardul Thakur," Chopra remarked on his YouTube channel.

'Runs aren't being scored in the Ranji Trophy'

Chopra also addressed the underwhelming performances of Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant in their respective matches. The prominent wicketkeeper-batter Pant struggled to make an impact for Delhi upon the return of the Ranji Trophy, recording scores of just 1 and 17 in both innings, leading to Delhi's defeat within two days.

"They are a formidable team, yet J&K managed to disrupt them in both innings. While many participated in the Ranji Trophy, the focus was primarily on Mumbai, Shubman Gill, Rishabh Pant, and Rajat Patidar, among others. However, regardless of who played, they were dismissed. It is astonishing. Scoring runs in the Ranji Trophy has become a significant challenge; it has turned into a new narrative," Chopra remarked.

Ravindra Jadeja emerged as the standout Indian player in the Ranji Trophy, achieving remarkable figures of 5/66 in the first innings and 7/38 in the second innings.
