On Tuesday, terrorists attacked a well-known tourist site in Pahalgam, South Kashmir, firing upon civilians and resulting in the deaths of at least 26 individuals while injuring a minimum of 20 others.
In the aftermath of this tragic event, former Indian cricketer Shreevats Goswami expressed his strong views regarding India's cricketing relationship with Pakistan through a post on his official X (formerly Twitter) account. Earlier this year, the BCCI declined to travel to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy, opting instead to schedule all of India's matches in the United Arab Emirates.
Goswami has called for India to sever all cricketing connections with Pakistan, urging the BCCI to refrain from engaging in matches with them.
He stated, 'And this is exactly why I say - you don't play cricket with Pakistan. Not now. Not ever.' He further commented, 'When the BCCI or the government declined to send India to the Champions Trophy in Pakistan, some had the audacity to argue that sport should transcend politics.' He countered this notion by asserting, 'From my perspective, the act of murdering innocent civilians appears to be their national pastime.
If this is their approach, then it is imperative that we respond in a manner they comprehend. Not with bats and balls, but with determination, dignity, and an unwavering stance of zero tolerance.'
Goswami disclosed that he had visited Pahalgam several months prior for the Legends League and expressed his desire for the revival of Kashmir's tourism sector. He stated, 'I am enraged and heartbroken. Just a few months ago, I was in Kashmir for the Legends League, where I strolled through Pahalgam, interacted with the locals, and witnessed a glimmer of hope in their eyes. It seemed as though peace had finally returned.
Now, however, we are faced with more violence. It shatters something within us and prompts us to question how many more times we are expected to remain silent and

According to the daughter of a victim of the assault, the assailants deliberately focused on male tourists after inquiring about their religious affiliation. She informed PTI that her father and uncle were shot while they were at a rest stop. 'Numerous tourists were present, yet the assailants specifically aimed at male tourists after asking if they were Hindu or Muslim,' she recounted.
The family was enjoying a vacation at a picturesque location when they heard gunfire from 'individuals dressed similarly to local law enforcement' coming down from a nearby hill. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah strongly condemned the attack, asserting, 'This incident is significantly more severe than any we have witnessed targeting civilians in recent years.'
