Aaron Finch, the former captain of Australia, recently posted a playful farewell message for Ravichandran Ashwin after the iconic Indian spinner announced his retirement from international cricket. The two cricketers had their moments in the IPL, especially back in 2018 when they were teammates at Punjab Kings. However, one of their most memorable interactions happened during the 2020 IPL season. Finch, playing for Royal Challengers Bangalore, found himself on the receiving end of one of Ashwin's famous warnings about leaving the crease early.
This incident took place in a match between RCB and Delhi Capitals. Ashwin, fielding at the non-striker's end, noticed Finch stepping out of the crease a bit too soon. Instead of going for the bails, Ashwin chose to give Finch a friendly nudge to remind him to stay in his spot, which stirred up quite a bit of discussion.
In his Instagram farewell post, Finch celebrated Ashwin’s impressive career, recognizing his incredible talent on the field and his fun-loving nature off it. “One of the all-time careers. Congratulations R Ashwin. It was a pleasure to play with and against you,” Finch shared, along with a funny photo from their IPL match that captured Ashwin's warning to Finch.
Finch goes into detail about the image.
The former Australian captain shared a funny memory on 7Cricket, giving a shoutout to Ashwin for not running him out: “It was hilarious because I think he ran Jos Buttler out right before that Mankading in the IPL, and then I did it. After the game, he came up to me and said, ‘I don’t run my mates out,’ so I’m really grateful for that!”
Finch also expressed his admiration for Ashwin, reminiscing about their time in the IPL.
“He’s incredible on the field, but off the field, he could chat about cricket for hours. I had a great time playing in the IPL with him and hanging out a lot,” Finch mentioned.
“His stats and achievements really speak volumes. The number of wickets he’s taken is just mind-blowing.”
Ashwin's career has been remarkable, boasting over 700 international wickets, which places him among the top bowlers in cricket history.
