'Fielder of the Match' Medal Disappears, Causing Turmoil in IND Dressing Room as Kohli is Declared Winner

The atmosphere in the Indian dressing room shifted dramatically on Sunday during the traditional 'Fielder of the Match' ceremony. India secured their place in the semifinals of the 2025 Champions Trophy with an unbeaten record after defeating New Zealand in their final group match in Dubai. Virat Kohli was recognized as India's top fielder for the match; however, the fielding medal was mysteriously absent.

In a video shared by the BCCI on its social media platforms on Monday, India's fielding coach, T Dilip, presented three nominees for the medal—Axar Patel, Kohli, and Shreyas Iyer. He mentioned that Udenka Nuwan Senevirathne, India's throwdown specialist, would present the medal. Yet, the medal was still unaccounted for.

Axar, who was seated with a knee brace, humorously remarked, "The medal isn't here. Where is it?" Dilip speculated that Mohammed Shami might have concealed the medal, a claim Shami refuted. Ultimately, Axar discovered the medal as Nuwan presented it to Kohli in recognition of his contributions during the match against New Zealand.

India to face Australia in semifinal

Following an impressive performance from both the batters and bowlers, which enabled India to achieve a hat-trick of victories in the group stage, India is set to face Australia in the first semifinal of the Champions Trophy on Tuesday in Dubai. This matchup features two of the most successful teams in the history of the Champions Trophy, each having claimed two titles.

In contrast to India, Australia enters the semifinal with only one victory to their name, which came against England in their opening match last month. Their subsequent encounter with South Africa was called off without a toss due to inclement weather in Rawalpindi. Additionally, their final group match against Afghanistan last week also resulted in no outcome after 62.5 overs of play, again due to rain.
