India achieved a decisive six-wicket victory over Pakistan, marking their second consecutive win in the ongoing Champions Trophy 2025. The match was largely one-sided, with Virat Kohli making a remarkable return to form by scoring an unbeaten century that secured the win.
This outcome resulted in Pakistan suffering back-to-back losses, leaving them at the bottom of Group A and facing the prospect of elimination. Their chances of survival now hinge on a series of favorable results.
The tournament has witnessed a growing discontent among Pakistan fans, who have expressed their frustration towards the team, particularly targeting Mohammad Rizwan and his teammates. Following their initial defeat to New Zealand, many supporters were left exasperated by the team's performance, especially criticizing Babar Azam for his excessively cautious half-century.
This discontent was further highlighted during the match against India, where a fan was seen on camera switching to an Indian jersey.
Here is the video:
In the chase for 242 runs, India comfortably reached 244/4 in just 42.3 overs, with Kohli remaining not out at 100 from 111 deliveries. He also hit the decisive boundary that marked his 51st ODI century. Additionally, Shreyas Iyer contributed significantly with a score of 56 runs off 67 balls. The Pakistani bowling attack faltered under pressure, with Shaheen Shah Afridi managing to take two wickets.
Earlier, Pakistan had set a target of 241 runs, thanks to a half-century from Saud Shakeel, who scored 62 runs off 82 balls. For India, Kuldeep Yadav was the standout bowler, claiming three wickets, while Hardik Pandya added two dismissals to his tally.
Following the match, Kohli remarked, “Honestly, it is gratifying to perform in such a manner during a crucial game that ensures our qualification. It is rewarding to contribute, especially after we lost Rohit early on. We had to apply the lessons learned from our previous match. My responsibility was to manage the middle overs against the spinners while minimizing risks. As the innings progressed, Shreyas increased the scoring rate, and I was able to hit a few boundaries as well. This enabled me to play my typical ODI style. I possess a solid understanding of my game; it is essential to disregard external distractions, maintain my focus, and manage my energy and thoughts effectively.”
