2 months ago | 5 Views
Fakhar Zaman, the opening batsman for Pakistan, cherishes his experiences from the Champions Trophy. His remarkable innings of 114 runs in the final against India at the Oval remains unforgettable. This left-handed batsman played a pivotal role in securing victory for Pakistan in that highly anticipated match against their long-standing rival, a performance that continues to resonate with cricket enthusiasts. As the Champions Trophy 2025 approaches, it remains to be seen if he will secure a place in the squad.
The eagerly awaited clash between India and Pakistan is set for February 23 in Dubai. In anticipation of this match, Fakhar Zaman expressed admiration for Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, asserting that both players will always be regarded as match-winners, regardless of their current form.
Both Kohli and Sharma have faced scrutiny for their recent performances in the series against Australia, with Kohli accumulating 190 runs over 9 innings and Sharma only managing 31 runs in 5 innings.
"Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have extensive experience in cricket, and they will always be seen as match-winners. Their past achievements cannot be overlooked simply because they are experiencing a dip in form. It is essential to recognize their class and legacy," stated Fakhar Zaman, who is currently playing for Desert Vipers in the ILT20, during a media interaction.
"Form is temporary, but class is enduring. The focus on their current struggles is excessive; the same applies to Babar Azam when he has a couple of underwhelming matches," he further commented.
'Bumrah is a world-class bowler'
Fakhar Zaman expressed high regard for Jasprit Bumrah, referring to him as a bowler of exceptional caliber. Nevertheless, he emphasized that Pakistan's strategy will encompass all players, not solely focusing on Bumrah.
"Jasprit Bumrah is indeed a world-class bowler. Our preparations are not limited to one individual; there are 11 players to consider. We must be ready for everyone," Fakhar stated.
He further remarked, "In my view, players like Hardik Pandya, Rohit Sharma, and Virat Kohli have previously led their team to victory and possess the capability to secure wins in any circumstance."
Reflecting on his memorable performance in the 2017 Champions Trophy final, Fakhar noted that the victory holds a special place in his heart.
“It has been some time since that match, and I have revisited my innings on several occasions. The memories from the Champions Trophy final against India in 2017 are cherished. Contributing to my team's success makes it even more significant. Prior to that victory, our team's morale was quite low. The entire tournament remains a highlight for me. India performed admirably throughout, but we had our moment in the final,” Fakhar remarked.
Finally, regarding his experience in the ILT20 tournament, Fakhar commented, “The competition is intense. The level of cricket here is highly competitive, and the conditions present challenges for batters. I am gaining valuable experience playing quality cricket in this environment.”
