Pakistan, under the leadership of Mohammad Rizwan, continues to face criticism following their exit from the ICC Men's Champions Trophy 2025. Sana Mir, the former captain of the Pakistan women's team, expressed that even a distinguished leader like MS Dhoni would have struggled to make a difference with the squad chosen for the tournament, as it was not assembled with the playing conditions in mind.

Pakistan's elimination occurred after New Zealand secured a five-wicket victory over Bangladesh in a Group A match held in Rawalpindi on Monday.

The host nation suffered defeats in their first two matches against New Zealand and Bangladesh. They are now set to face Bangladesh again on Thursday in a match that holds no significance for the tournament standings.

Since the announcement of Pakistan's squad, social media has been rife with criticism, with numerous former cricketers pointing out the absence of frontline spinners in the team.

Mir stated on the 'Game On Hai' program, "The 15 players selected for the Champions Trophy, regardless of whether MS Dhoni or former Pakistan captain Younis Khan were at the helm, would not be able to effect any chang

Pakistan's dismal show against India

Pakistan suffered a defeat by six wickets to India, as Virat Kohli delivered an impressive performance, marking his 51st ODI century and aiding Rohit Sharma's team in successfully chasing down a target of 242 runs with 45 balls remaining.

Sana Mir, a veteran of over 300 white-ball matches for Pakistan, expressed her belief that the management failed to select an optimal team for the prevailing conditions.

"I was observing the match when I received a message from a friend stating that India was at 100 for 2, and I thought, 'I believe it's over.' I remarked that the match was effectively decided when the squad was announced," she stated.

"By the time we revealed the 15-member squad, we had already lost half the tournament, and I have maintained this perspective from the outset. The selectors were aware that Pakistan would need to play at least one match in Dubai, so it is perplexing why they included two part-time spinners," she continued.

Sana Mir criticized the decision to include only one frontline spinner in the squad, noting that Abrar Ahmed was the standout among the Pakistani bowlers during the match against India, delivering a remarkable ball to dismiss Shubman Gill.

Nevertheless, he lacked adequate support from his teammates, which ultimately contributed to Pakistan's defeat.

"Abrar (Ahmed), who is still relatively inexperienced in ODI cricket, has taken only two wickets while conceding 165 runs over the past five months. The selectors made the decision to drop key players who had participated in the previous series against Australia and South Africa," Mir concluded.
